Hello wrestling fans and welcome back to another installment of the HCW Wrestling Newsletter. Today, we recap the Fanfest and the Hall of Fame ceremony that took place right after.
Fanfest notes:
One person had a
shirt that read “I B Whacked”. It must have
been custom made since that character never really got the chance to make an
impact.
Dr. Red Fang got
fed up and walked out after sitting around with no one wanting his
autograph. He would scream “VAMPIRE
LUNGES FOR YOU” but that only made people stay away.
Steel Curtain
merchandise especially that with Buzz’s likeness or catchphrases completely
sold out.
Longest lines were
for Starbuck Steel, Jack Lumber and World Champion The Wicked Prophet.
Now, it’s time for
the Hall of Fame Ceremony.
The event begins
with GM Max McGillicutty coming out to thank all those in attendance for coming
to this special event. He says that Jeff
Meyers was a huge part of this wrestling community for over 20 years and says
his insights will be sorely missed. Max
asks everyone to stand while a 10-bell salute is rung. While the bell rings 10 times, images of Mr.
Meyers in all his incarnations appears on the screen and once completed, he is
given a standing ovation. After a few
minutes, Max asks everyone to take their seats.
Max says that although owner Mr. B will be inducting his long-time
friend into the Hall of Fame, there are a couple of people who wanted to say
something first.
First out is
Starbuck Steel. Starbuck walks up to the
podium. “Jeff, also known as my brother
Buzz Steel, was a hell of a guy. On one
hand, he was quick to temper. On
another, he’d be the sneakiest bastard you’d ever met. He could be your best friend and worst enemy
if you angered him just right. To me, he
was my brother and I’m sad he’s gone. I
believe the world is a better place because he was in it. Jeff, Buzz, RIP my brother.” Starbuck goes to leave and the fans give him
a nice applause. Max comes out
again. “Even though our next speaker is
not on the HCW roster, he wanted to make an appearance.” Max steps aside and out comes…The
Undertaker. The fans are awestruck. Undertaker walks up to the podium.
“My interactions
with the man on the screen above me were done under the guise of a mask and the
name MW3. Many years ago, for you fans
who are not well aware of the work from HWF and CSWA, I had a feud with
MW3. At the beginning of one particular
year, we had a match that saw me get injured.
After taking time off to heal, I came back with revenge in mind. We had another specialty match that saw me
get injured a second time. This went on
practically the entire year. I would
come back only to get re-injured. Finally,
as the year came to a close, we had our final match. Thankfully, I didn’t get injured and won the
match. Afterwards, I raised his hand in
a show of respect. I may not have liked
what he did to me but he went toe to toe with me the entire year and not many
people can say that. MW3, I said many
times that this was MY yard. You said
that you ‘just crapped in my yard’ and
at the time, your catchphrase ran wild over the yeahs, the smelling of the
cooking and the True statements. After
our encounter, I became great friends with Jeff as the GM of CSWA and
represented his organization as the champion for many years. MW3….Jeff…This is Your yard now. The next generation of HCW stars will keep it
up for you.” The Undertaker got a
standing ovation and he exited the stage.
Max came out one last time.
“And now, without
further ado, inducting Jeff Meyers into the HCW Hall of Fame is his ‘brother
from another mother’; his tag team partner or feud recipient…Owner Mr. B also
known as ‘The Original Big Daddy’ Donnie B.”
TOBD Donnie B
makes his way out to a nice pop from the crowd.
As soon as they quieted down, he began to speak. “Jeff Meyers, I don’t know what to really say
about him. He would also be the first to
give you a ride if your car broke down or go for a ride on the EL in Chicago
and have some Chicago style deep dish.
He’d tag along at comic conventions and laugh at the stupidest of
jokes. He and I ran HWF and CSWA
starting back in the early 2000’s and creatively we came up with some of the
best feuds, storylines and wrestlers ever seen in this industry. He was creative, not only when it came to
wrestling but his knowledge of comics, movies and other sorts of gaming was second
to none. He called himself a ‘Super
Genius’ and that Genius allowed him to create storylines and characters both in
and out of the ring. He wrestled under
his own name but he was also MW3, Tornado en Fuego, Buzz Steel and the short
lived Mr. B Wacks. A lover of old
comics, D&D, and a certain mainstream coffee house, he loved life. I may have been the creative who started this
journey but he was the VOICE behind it.
Although that voice is now silent, he will always be with us. Max announced that moving forward, the
Critical Mass PPV will now feature an annual Jeff Meyers Commemorative Battle
Royal. The winner of the battle royal
will win a gold cup…one that they can take to their favorite coffee house and
get free refills for an entire year. My
final words will be a special Thank You not only to Jeff for his contributions
but to you the fans, who have cheered or booed, you made him feel special. For that, I thank you.” After the speech, there is another 10 bell
salute and a standing ovation for one who brought so much to this league. He will always be remembered.
Thanks for
reading. The PPV is up next. Stay Tuned.
Well stated, Donnie B! Thank you Jeff Meyers, for your creative contributions to this endeavor, and for bringing your inner light and joy into the lives of so many family, friends, and fans. Steven Bychowski (aka the Caped Crusader)
