HCW Wrestling Newsletter 2020 #849 (6/24/20) – Go Home show

Hello fans and welcome back to another installment of the HCW wrestling newsletter.  On today’s show, we expect interaction between those competing in the PPV in just over a week, a contract signing between the challenger Jack Lumber and the World Champion and King the Wicked Prophet and a main event with the 6 Man tag team titles on the line.  We kick things off backstage with J9.

“J9 here coming to you live from behind the curtain.  First, I want to let you, the fans, know that I will be leaving the microphone behind and taking my spot on the active roster come August.  It’s been a great honor bringing you the action from the commentary desk and now backstage but my heart wants to be in that ring with all the great HCW competitors.”  She is then interrupted by her former commentating partner Dash ‘Smooooth’ Woodbrick.   Dash tells J9 that Master Bull is out to screw him but Bull needs to watch his back.  Dash has the ‘power and influence’ of the crown and world champion behind him and all Master Bull has is a title with “co” in it.  Dash walks off.

Pyro goes off kicking off our first show of the evening.  First, Adam Jameson comes out to a nice pop from the crowd.  The Banker comes out next with his manager Ruth Heartless to massive booing from the crowd.  The Banker flips off the fans and makes his way into the ring.  He tries to attack Adam before the bell but the cagy veteran sees it coming and hurls the Banker out the other side of the ring.  The Banker is pissed and Ruth is making lots of noise that sounds like the screeching eels from the Princess Bride.  Eventually the match begins and much to everyone’s surprise, Adam dominates the match.  Ruth got involved a couple of times.  17 minutes in, The Banker hits Adam with a Credit Check chop sending him to the mat.  He picks him up hurling to the ropes but Adam leaps onto the second rope and comes flying back with a springboard face smash.  The crowd pops and Adam gets psyched up.  The Banker struggles to his feet and Adam repeats with a second springboard face smash.  He makes the cover and gets the 1-2-3.  Adam Jameson has just score an upset over the Banker.  He has his arm raised in victory.  He leaves to a pop from the crowd.  Ruth enters the ring and begins screeching at the ref who can only take so much and leaves himself.  Ruth helps the Banker to his feet and they leave to booing/mocking from the fans.  (19 min)

After a moment, Perfect Pecs Stoddard comes out to the ring and asks for a mic.  He calls out his former tag team partner Shawn ‘Abs of Stone’ Austin.  Austin comes out to booing.  Pecs says he brought Austin into the business and didn’t see the turncoat showing his true colors.  Austin says that he was carrying Pecs the entire time they tagged and he got tired of the extra baggage.  Pecs challenges him to a match at next weeks’ PPV.  Austin accepts, flips Pecs off and then leaves.  Pecs leaves a few moments later.

Backstage, we see Leiton Snake talking to ‘the Bounty Hunter’ Jake Montrose.  Looks like something shady is going down.

Our next match is ready to get underway.  First, one half of the Cummings twins Felicia makes her way out without her sister.  She gets into the ring and begins mocking the crowd.  The ref looks around questioningly and then decides to go look under the ring.  He sees and pulls Betsy, Felicia’s twin, out from under the ring.  He immediately sends her to the back much to the dismay of Felicia.  The music changes and the fans pop as Hayley Hailstorm makes her way out.  She interacts with the fans and walks to the ring.  Felicia, mad that her sister got caught and now has no one she can count on (to cheat) attacks Hayley to kick off this match.   Hayley had control early on but after being on the receiving end of a Sitout Facebuster turned the tide in Felicia’s favor.  The advantage didn’t last long.  Felicia went for a sunset flip but Hayley reversed it and hit the Lovelace choker neckbreaker.  The fans popped.  Hayley got ready once Felicia made it to her feet and then hit her with a lifting reverse S.T.O.  She made the cover and got the 3 count.  Hayley gets the win and the fans continue to cheer for her.  She leaves heading to the back.  (11 min)

We are backstage with the Anytime/Anywhere champion Phat Sol.  Phat is immediately blindsided by the Bounty Hunter Jake Montrose and they begin fighting all over backstage using anything they can get their hands on as weapons.  Jake threw Phat into some boxes and they tumbled on him covering hm.  Jake tried to go for a pin but he couldn’t find Phat in all the mess.  Phat sneaks around and then hits Jake with the Phat’s Enough.  Phat goes for the pin and gets the 3 count.  Phat retains his title.  He sees Leiton Snake running over and he takes off (self-preservation).

We head back to the ring and already there is ‘Sassy’ Maxine DeVito.  Maxine calls out Korbi Kong demanding a shot at the briefcase (with the title match) once again.  Korbi Kong makes her way out to a huge pop from the crowd.  She shrugs her shoulders (why not) and makes her way to the ring.  Maxine goes right on the offensive just as the bell rang not giving Korbi time to get her jacket off.  She went for a pin early on by grabbing the tights but the ref caught it and threatened to disqualify her if she did it again.   Maxine kept the pressure on locking in a chinlock choke (the ref had to admonish her again for doing it twice). Maxine then went for a guillotine choke and the ref forcibly broke the hold.  He tried to admonish her again but she picked Korbi up and went to throw her into the ropes but Korbi reversed it and whipped Maxine who stopped short of hitting the ref.  She turned and saw Korbi coming and ducked a clothesline which hit the unaware ref.  The ref had no choice but to disqualify Korbi (although it was unintentional) and award the match to Maxine.  Maxine began jumping for joy until the ref said that the contract only changes hands on a pin or submission.  DQ or count out do not.  Korbi began laughing.  Maxine grabbed a mic and called out the GM’s.  GM Max McGillicutty came out.  Maxine demanded a rematch against Korbi at the PPV.   Max immediately agreed but then pointed out that Maxine did NOT request it be for the contract so it will be a standard match.  Korbi began laughing again as she rolled out of the ring.  Maxine began kicking the ropes in frustration and eventually left…outsmarted.  (6 ½ min)

We head backstage where a commotion is taking place.  Texas Wildfire and TV Champion Apollo Gyze are brawling knocking things over and making a mess.  GM Master Bull comes over to break it up.   Bull tells the two that if they don’t cut it out right now, their PPV match is off.  Apollo began laughing until Bull told him he could easily strip him of the title.  Apollo shut right up.  Bull then said that since they like taking the fight all over the place, their match at the PPV will be a falls count anywhere match.   Apollo didn’t seem to like it but really has no choice.

Next up is tag team action.  First, the Regulators – Mule and Mammoth – come out to a mixed reaction from the crowd.  Once in the ring, the music changed and out comes Scooter J and TNT to major booing from the fans.  Scooter J took it in and smirked.  That got the fans all the more irate.  SJ and TNT head down to the ring.  The match begins but almost immediately, the World Tag Team Champions the Steel Curtain come out and sit at commentary.  This distracted SJ and TNT.  The Regulators started to take control of the match until SJ walked over and slugged the ref.  The ref immediately disqualified SJ and TNT awarding the match to the Regulators. Scooter J grabbed a mic and began mocking the Tag team champs.  This of course didn’t sit well so the Curtain jumped into the ring and began brawling with Scooter J and TNT.  It took about 10 people from the back to break them up.   It took a few minutes but eventually everyone was sent to the back. (4 ½ min for the match; 5 for the aftermath).

After the ring was cleared, a table was brought in and set up with 3 chairs.  GM Max McGillicutty then came out with a contract in hand.  He then calls out the challenger for next weeks match and Jack Lumber makes his way out to a pop from the fans.  He gets into the ring and sits at the table.  Next, the music changed and out comes Dash Woodbrick and the World Champion and King the Wicked Prophet.   Dash talks smack to the fans and he and Prophet walk to the ring.  Prophet gets into the ring and sits opposite Jack.  Max explains the rules for the match stating that this will be a no time limit match.  It will also be No DQ.  Both men seem to be ok with that.  Jack signs it first and then Prophet.  Dash walks over and snatches the contract from Max.   He looks it over and then nods to Prophet.  Dash then LEAPS on to the table and attacks Jack.  Max got him off pretty quick but that distraction was all Prophet needed to attack Jack.   Prophet beat Jack down before nailing the Unrighteous Dominion through the table.  The damage has been done.  Prophet and Dash leave laughing as Jack had to be helped to his feet.  Jack refused medical attention and made it to the back on his own.

It is time for our main event.  First, the lights go dim and out comes Wilber Townsend in his creepy mask accompanied by Talon McFrost and Otto Ruthless.  The trio make their way to the ring amidst the booing from the fans.  Once in the ring, the lights came up and a moment later, the music changed and out comes the Six Man Tag Team champions led by Killa Pops, Superquake Ferguson and Maximillian Redbeard.  The champs are cheered as they head down to the ring.  The handed the belts to the ref and went to their respective corners.  The match began almost immediately.

The show comes to an end with Wilber, Otto and Talon all standing tall in the ring as the fans boo.

The PPV is up next.  Stay tuned.

HCW Wrestling Newsletter 2020 #848 (6/17/20)

Hello fans and welcome back to another installment of the HCW Wrestling Newsletter.  Pyro goes off and things start down at the ring.  Scooter J and TNT come out to booing from the fans.  They enter the ring and Scooter J demands a mic.  “Steel Curtain…you cost me the Hardcore title (TNT pops in with ‘Yeah, cost him the title’).  You have stuck your nose in our business one too many times (TNT says ‘Big noses’).  We demand a match at the PPV for the Tag Team Titles.”  The music changes and out comes the World Tag Team Champs the Steel Curtain.  Buzz and Starbuck Steel get a huge pop from the crowd.  Buzz has a mic in hand. “You want to talk about interfering?   You two schmoes stuck your noses in our business and you even cost Starbuck the World title (Starbuck leans in and says ‘schmoes’ mocking TNT).  You pantywaists want a shot at us?  You got it.  Buck, got anything to add?”  Starbuck leans in and says (the fans join in) “Word”.  The champs leave and TNT and Scooter J sneer at them and eventually make their way to the back.

We see Dash Woodbrick sneaking around backstage with a roll of caution tape.  Now what is he up to?

J9 is backstage with TV Champion Jack Lumber.  “Jack, tonight you put the title on the line against Apollo Gyze.  Are you ready?”  Jack smiles.  “Niner, I’ve been ready my whole life.  Winning the TV title is just the first step. I haven’t forgotten about you Prophet.  This is a final warning…keep your nose out of my business.”  Jack leaves.

Pyro goes off again and our first match is underway.  The first match is for the Anytime/Anywhere title.  Making his way out first is Snake Pit member Leiton Snake.  He gets a mixed reaction as he heads down to the ring.  He waits for the champ to come out.  The music plays but the AA champ Phat Sol is nowhere to be found.  After a brief lull, the other members of the Pit Niven and Tobias Snake drag a semi-conscious Phat Sol down to the ring.  It appears they beat him down softening him up for Leiton.  Leiton is in the ring laughing as Phat is carried/dragged to the ring.  They roll Phat into the ring.  The ref then orders the other Pit members from the ring.  Leiton calls for the bell to ring and gets set up for the Curb Stomp.  He goes for it but Phat moves out of the way and then nails Leiton with the Phat’s Enough.  Phat then rolled out of the ring.  Leiton recovered and hit the ropes connecting with a suicide dive to the floor landing right on Phat who crashed into the ringside barrier.  The ref began counting both men out but Leiton rolled back in to break the count but the ref didn’t stop counting (he should have) and ended up reaching 10.  Leiton was shocked.  He may have won the match by countout but the belt doesn’t change hands on a countout.  He was livid.  He goes back after Phat and rolls him into the ring.  He then exits again and grabs a steel chair.  He brings the chair into the ring and lays it across Phat’s face.  He then sets up for the Curb Stomp again and goes to execute it but at the last minute, Phat pushed the chair off and it hit Leiton right in the leg as he was going for the punt.  Leiton hits the mat in pain.  Tobias and Niven Snake rush down but Phat bails out of the ring to avoid the attack. He exits through the crowd holding his title high.  He then disappears into the sea of fans.  (1 min for the match; 5 for the aftermath).

J9 is backstage again with Hayley Hailstorm and her manager Matt Preacher.  Hayley says that she seems to be stuck in the mid card when lesser talented people seem to be getting a push.  She says she’s had enough and tonight, things will change.  She turns to Matt Preach and officially fires him.  The fans pop.  Preacher is speechless.  He storms off.  Hayley says that this is the beginning of a ‘new’ Hayley and she is ready for what is to come.  She leaves.

We go back to the ring for our next match.  First, ‘Luke Warm’ Lucas Johnston comes out to a (you guessed it) a luke-warm reaction from the crowd.  Once in the ring, his opponent makes his way out and out comes the gigantic Biceps Bannerman.  Bannerman gets a pop from the crowd and high-fives them as he makes his way to the ring.  He gets in and the match begins almost immediately.  Biceps dominated at first but then the former King began taking the fight to Biceps.  After almost squeezing the life out of Lucas with the Biceps crunch, he hurled him to the ropes and dropped him with a devastating chop to the chest.  Biceps goes for the pin and secures the 3 count in 19 minutes.  Biceps gets the win and celebrates with the fans as Lucas makes his way to the back.  After a few moments, Biceps heads to the back.

J9 is backstage with Apollo Gyze.  Apollo says that Hayley firing her manager in front of the world was the dummest thing she could do.  Apollo addresses Preacher and says that even if Hayley apologizes, he should still kick her to the curb.  “Now, tonight, I get my hands on that goofball Lumber and the TV title.  He think I hurt his feelings?  Guess what numnut; more than your feelings are gonna be hurt when I leave you broken and take your title.  And you know what, I won’t be apologizing for it…Sucka!”

We head to the ring for our next match.  First, the loudspeakers light up with “TIMMMMBEERRRR” and out comes the TV Champion Jack Lumber.  The fans pop for him and as he looks to the ‘Lumber Lounge’, he sees it’s empty with a bunch of caution tape closing it off.  He looks perplexed but then continues his way to the ring.  Once in the ring, he holds his title up high and the fans pop huge for him.  He gets cut off when the annoying “APOLLO GYZE DON’T APOLOGIZE” screams through the loudspeakers.  Apollo comes out to a HUGE chorus of boos from the crowd.  He turns his nose up at them and sneers and makes his way to the ring.  He shushes Jack from the ropes so he can enter under his own volition.  He climbs in and immediately attacks Jack.  The two battle for a solid 11 minutes before Jack hits the Spear and goes for the cover only to get a 2 count.  At the 18 minute mark, Jack hits the “TIMMBBERRR” but Apollo rolls out of the ring before Jack could attempt a pin.  Jack follows Apollo out but Apollo is back in the ring quickly and hits the ropes connecting with a suicide dive to the floor.  The ref began counting but Apollo started getting concerned Jack was going to get counted out and cheat to keep the title.  Just then, Dash Woodbrick and the World Champion the Wicked Prophet came out.  When Apollo saw them (the ref had just counted to 9), he distracted the ref.  Dash and Prophet begin stomping on Jack on the outside of the ring before rolling him back in.  They then took steps away from the ring to make it look like they were just watching.  Apollo picks Jack up and whips him to the ropes.  Apollo went for a clothesline but Jack ducked it using his momentum to bounce off the ropes and try for the spear but Apollo caught him with a running boot.  Apollo went for the pin but they were close to the ropes.  Jack got his foot on the bottom rope but Dash knocked it off before the ref could see it.  The ref counted to 3 and to everyone’s shock, he awarded the match AND the TV title to Apollo Gyze.  Apollo grabs the title jumping for joy as the fans let their displeasure be heard.  Apollo takes his title and runs to the back all giddy.  Jack gets up and is seething.  He takes a mic calling out Prophet and Dash for interfering and costing him his title.  Jack says he wants Prophet at the PPV in a match for the title.  Prophet has a mic of his own.  “And why would I do that?  You’re not a contender; hell, you just lost anything that gave you credibility so you are worse than a nothing.”  Jack rushes the ropes and then went flying over the top crashing on to both Dash and Prophet.  Jack picks up Dash and levels him with the Axe.  He turns around only for Prophet to blindside him.  He rolls Jack in and follows him in.   He nails Jack with the Unrighteous Dominion and then locks in the Crucifix Clutch.  He ends up letting Jack go and takes the mic.  “You want a match against me and this is the best you can do?  Fine.  I’ve embarrassed you here tonight and at the PPV, I’ll do it again in front of the world.”  Prophet drops the mic and leaves gathering Dash up and making their way to the back.  (26 min for the match; 5 for the aftermath)

Backstage, Apollo is still running around like a goofball and crashes into Texas Wildfire.  “Hey you fool, watch where you’re going.”  Wildfire was not impressed.  “Me watch?  Moron, you’re the one who ran into me.”  Apollo got into Wildfire’s face. “Wanna say that again to my face?”  Wildfire steps over and goes nose to nose.  “Put up or shut up” he says.  Apollo begins to steam.  “Fool, I’ll take you on anytime, anywhere.”  Wildfire smiles.  “Then we can settle this at the PPV.  Don’t forget to bring your title.”  “I beat that fool Jack Lumber; I can beat you.  Better load up on padding cause I’m gonna beat the tar out of you…and I won’t apologize for it.”  Apollo walks away.  I guess we have another match for the PPV.

We then cut to the office of the GM.  Both GM’s Max McGillicutty and Master Bull are talking.  Dash Woodbrick walks in.  “I have more important things going on managing THE Champs schedule.  What do you want?  Bull stands up.  “Max and I have been talking and after what you did earlier during Lumber’s match, we think that your time as a manager is over after the July 4th PPV.”  Dash is shocked.  “You can’t fire me!  I work for the Prophet; not you two.”  Max adds in.  “We weren’t going to fire you Dash.  In fact, we think that your flapping gums would be put to better use.”  “How so?” Dash asks. Master Bull hands Dash a piece of paper to read.  “Effective 7/5/2020, Dash Woodbrick, who calls himself a SMOOOOOOTH Operator, hereby agrees, in order to avoid future lawsuits stemming from his time as an announcer and a manager, agrees to become a full-time wrestler.”  Dash is shocked.  “I ain’t signing that.”  Max says, “But you have to and here is why:  You’ve managed to piss off most of the roster including this man to my right (Master Bull).  Bull says he’s willing to relinquish his GM title and authority just to get you in the ring.  Master Bull wants you in the ring and frankly, I’m ok with it happening.  If you do not accept, you will have anything leveraged against you since you started dumped on you and we will have to cut you loose.  Now, the choice is yours but it’s this or unemployment; your call.”  Dash is fuming.  “Fine.  I’ll get trained for the ring and I’ll teach YOU (puts his finger into Bull’s chest) to mind your own business.”  Dash storms off.  Bull hands Max a $5 bill.  “And here I thought he would tuck tail and run.”

Lavender Gooms makes her way out first to a mixed reaction from the crowd. She enters the ring and waits.  Next, Hayley’s music hits and the fans pop, happy she’s left the dark path behind and found the light.  She interacts with the fans and makes her way to the ring.  The match begins right away.  After neither were able to get the early advantage, Lavender went for a snap suplex but Hayley reversed it hitting the Shimmering Warlock enzuiguri.  She then drops Lavender with a DDT.  Lavender then began to battle back pressing Hayley over her head before slamming her to the mat.  Lavender went for the four-leg clover lock but Hayley powered out of it and nailed a Death Valley Driver.  She went for the ping securely hooking the leg and got the 1-2-3.  Hayley Hailstorm gets the win and the fans pop.  She makes her way to the back soaking in the fans appreciation for her turn and then exits behind the curtain.  (7 min)

J9 is backstage with Davis Hoffmeister.  “Hoff, you defeated Apollo to get this spot and now you’re facing the US Champion Rad Gumbo in the main event.  What are your thoughts?”  Davis turns to the camera. “First, I want to say that Apollo does have a big mouth and I’m sure that Texas Wildfire with teach him a thing or two.  On to my opponent tonight.  Both Rad and I have held the World title.  He has had the distinction of being King.  The one thing he hasn’t done is to meet up against me for this title.  The second most prestigious belt in HCW needs someone who will give it the respect it is due.  I am not taking anything from Rad as he is sneaky as he is dangerous.  I think I can beat him; I just need ample time to prove it.  I just heard he and I are getting 30 minutes to bring the house down.  I think we can oblige.”

We head back to the ring for some tag team action.  First, Ovaltine Jackson and Ghee Buttersnaps make their way out to a nice pop from the crowd.  They enter the ring and continue to get the crowd excited.  The music changes and out comes the Freedom Fighters – Flash and Justice.  The duo rush out and hit the ring and begin pummeling Ovaltine and Ghee.  After about 3 minutes of that, Ghee and Ovaltine turn the tables and take the fight to the Fighters.  6 minutes in, Ghee locked in a power arm bar on Justice before hitting him with the Ghee Hee Hee.  He makes the cover at Ovaltine rushes and knocks Flash off the ring apron to prevent interference.  Ghee gets the 3 count and he and Ovaltine secure the win.  Ovaltine and Ghee have their arms raised in victory but they are attacked from behind by Flash who has a steel chair.  He knocks both Ovaltine and Ghee to the mat.  Flash tells Justice to pick up Ovaltine on his shoulders.  He does as Flash climbs to the top turnbuckle.  He launches hitting a flying clothesline.  They kick Ovaltine out of the ring.  Flash then grabs Ghee and holds him in the middle of the ring.  Justice climbs to the top turnbuckle and leaps off hitting a leg drop on Ghee.  They kick him out of the ring also.  The Freedom Fighters are booed heavily and they leave with carnage in their wake.  (7 min for the match; 5 for the aftermath)

J9 says she has an announcement to make before bringing in the US Champion.  She says that HCW management have come to terms with Matt Preacher and he has been released from HCW.    Now, she brings in Rad Gumbo and his manager Ms. Alexandria.  Gumbo says that a lot of what Davis said was true except he IS the US champion and even though they may tear the house down, he is not planning on walking out without his title around his waist.  “Mon Ami, I’m ready; you better be ready.  Let’s get dis party started.”  Gumbo and his manager depart for the ring.

It’s time for our main event.  First, Davis ‘the Hoff’ Hoffmeister makes his way out to a HUGE pop from the crowd.  He interacts with the fans as he makes his way to the ring.  He climbs in and continues to get the crowd pumped for this match.  After a few moments, the music changes and we hear “GUMBO 7:30 MEANS ITS SUPPA TIME, BITCH” and out comes the US Champion ‘the Ragin Cajun’ Rad Gumbo and his manager Ms. Alexandria.  They head to the ring and then enter.  Gumbo climbs the turnbuckle holding the US title high over his head.  He steps down and hands the title to the ref.  Ms. Alexandria leaves and the ref starts the match.
