Hello fans and welcome back to another installment of the HCW Wrestling Newsletter. We have lots of great action on the show for you today including title defenses of the Hardcore title, the Six Man Tag Team titles and in the main event, the World Tag Team Champions the Steel Curtain take on the Smashers. The Smashers have promised a short title reign so let’s see if they put up or shut up.
The
show begins back in the office of GM Max McGillicutty. He is hard at work getting today’s show
finalized when the Banker and his manager Ruth Heartless storm into his
office. Max looks peeved. The Banker begins a tirade about how Jack
Lumber cheated to keep the World Title. The
Banker then accuses Max of running a biased operation. Max tells the Banker he can quit at any time
but if he does, he will be in breach of contract. The Banker says he’s smarter than that and
will just sit at home until his contract expires. He and Ruth storm out.
We return to
ringside and pyro goes off as the spotlights swirl over the sea of fans. It looks like our first match is ready to get
underway. Music hits and out comes
Bishop Ripley. He gets a decent pop only
because of who he’s facing. He makes his
way to the ring and climbs in. He moves
to the opposite side of the ring and waits.
The music changes and the fans go sour as the Wicked Prophet makes his
way out. The fans boo him as he makes
his way out. He sneers at the crowd and
walks to the ring. The booing
intensifies the closer he gets to the ring.
He climbs in and climbs one turnbuckle raising one arm in the air. The fans do not care about this guy. The match begins with Bishop taunting Prophet
which irritated him all the more. WP put
up with it for only a couple of minutes before he’s had enough and takes out
all his frustrations. At the 9 minute
mark, Prophet hits the Baptism of Fire and goes for the pin but Bishop kicks
out at 1. Prophet hits it again and goes
for the pin but only gets a 2 count this time.
Bishop nails a tiger suplex and goes for the Alien Resurrection but
Prophet turns it into the Crucifix Clutch.
Trapped, Bishop has no choice but to tap out. Wicked Prophet gets the dominating win. He grabs a mic.
“Casper, last time
you confronted me you called me a ninny.
You are the fool thinking you mean anything in this universe. You cheat to win and know no other way. I will dominate you anytime, anywhere. I am calling for a final face-off, no rules! I don’t want to be put up against a chump any
longer. Get out of my way, cowpoke.” Prophet leaves the ring and the fans are
glad to see him go. (12 min)
We head backstage
with Larry Morton. Larry says he has exclusive
interview with this man right here. In
walks Dash Woodbrick. Larry invites him
to sit down. Dash thinks it’s a set up
and checks the chair before sitting down.
Larry: Dash, you turned on the one man who trusted
you. You seem destined to be a villain.
Dash: You either
die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain…Yeah, I
know, I stole that from the guy dressed as a bat.”
Larry: Do you see yourself as a villain?
Dash: Everyone is
a villain in someone's story.
Larry: Everyone?
Dash: Well everyone is better than someone! By
everyone, I mean me. By someone, I mean
that coattail-riding goofball Dennis Marshall.
Larry: You’re not a very nice person.
Dash: I literally and legitimately gotta be me.
Larry: What a goof.
Back to you at the ring.
Our next match is
ready to get going. First, some sad
music plays and out comes ‘Broken Korbi’ accompanied by her, ahem, manager
‘Sassy’ Maxine DeVito. The duo head to the
ring to a chorus of boos. ‘Broken Korbi’
gets in the ring and Maxine remains on the outside. She tells Korbi to stand in the corner and
the Broken One obliges. The music
changes and the fans pop huge as HCW’s little spitfire Hayley Hailstorm makes
her way out. The fans give her a nice
solid pop and she shakes hands with them as she sprints to the ring. She slides underneath the bottom rope and
climbs the turnbuckle pumping her fists in the air. The match begins and the two ladies are
pretty evenly matched up. At the six
minute mark, Hayley nails the Death Valley Driver and goes for a pin but Korbi
kicks out at 2. Hayley tries to go for
it again but Korbi nullifies it. Maxine
climbs on the apron and yells for Korbi to throw Hayley towards her. Korbi whips Hayley towards Maxine but at the
last second, Hayley revered it and sent Korbi crashing into Maxine. Maxine falls to the ground. Hayley hits Korbi with the Flirting with
Danger knee smash as Korbi came stumbling off the ropes. Hayley rolled her up and got the 1-2-3. Hayley gets the win. She stands tall as the ref raises her arm in
victory. Just then, Maxine slides into
the ring with a steel chair and smashes Hayley across the back with it. She hands the chair to ‘Broken Korbi’. Maxine tells her to finish her. Korbi raises the chair high but then stops as
the fans pop and Ladies Champion Violet Valkyrie rushes down. Korbi abandons her attack and she and Maxine
take off through the crowd. Maxine is
cursing at Violet mouthing she will break Violet too. Violet helps Hayley up and the two eventually
leave. (8 min)
Backstage,
Hardcore Champion Wilber Townsend says that he is looking forward to another
match against Phantom Frank and he promises that like their last match, Frank
will leave with another tick mark in the loss column. He laughs maniacally as the screen fades to
black.
We head back to
the ring for our next match. First,
Billy Robbins makes his way out to a nice pop from the crowd. He interacts with the fans and then climbs
into the ring. He doesn’t have to wait
long as the lights dim and out comes the Hardcore Champion Wilber
Townsend. Wilber is wearing his mangled
/ melted Pennywise the clown mask. He
slowly walks to the ring and the fans for the most part keep their
distance. Wilber gets into the ring
wasting no time. The rules for this
match will be a bull rope match. Both
men are secured to the end of a thick rope with a cowbell hanging in the middle
for either man to use (whoever grabs it first).
The bell rings and for 24 minutes, Billy controls the pace of the match
but he could never get a pin. At the 25
minute mark, the tide finally turned to Wilber’s favor but he couldn’t do much
with the time remaining. This one ends
at the 30 minute mark and both men are exhausted and bloodied. The ref unsecures Wilber first and he uses
that brief moment in time to attack Billy.
He only gets in one or two shots as Phantom Frank runs down and chases
Wilber out of the ring. Frank gets on the
mic and says that if Wilber couldn’t defeat Billy in under 30 minutes, what
makes him think he’ll defeat him (Frank).
Frank helps Billy up and stands guard as Wilber makes his way to the
back. (30 min draw)
In the back, the
Ambassador is standing tall with his team – Devastation, Inc. – the Six Man Tag
Team Champions with ‘the Enforcer’ Madman Mason standing right beside him. The Ambassador says that his team will make
minced meat out of the Snake Pit and will continue to dominate the sport. He adds that Mason is biding his time and
when the moment comes, he will strike. They
walk off but Dr. Red Fang is the last to leave and he growls “Vampire Lunges
for Everybody” before following the rest of his team.
Apollo Gyze comes
out (peeved that they didn’t introduce him the right way) and says that he is
constantly being overlooked. He says
that Casper Wyoming is getting stuff handed to him on a silver platter but
tonight that changes. Tonight, he takes
control. He calls out Casper. Casper Wyoming comes out and the fans
pop. That irritates Apollo. Casper heads to the ring and climbs in. He snatches the mic from Apollo and says that
if Apollo wants a match so bad, he’s here to deliver. Apollo attacks Casper starting this one off. Casper takes control and dominates the match
for the first 15 minutes. He went for a
high impact move off the top turnbuckle but Wicked Prophet snuck in from the
crowd and pushed Casper off the top rope to the floor. Apollo had the ref distracted so he never saw
the interference. Casper, to his credit,
managed to kick out after Apollo nailed a Gorilla press drop moonsault. Casper began to battle back for two minutes
but Apollo nailed the Gorilla press drop moonsault again but Casper kicked out
at two. In the final seconds of the
match, Casper hit Apollo with a gutwrench suplex but had nothing in the tank to
go for a pin. The bell rang at the 20
minute mark bringing this one to a draw finish.
Apollo tried to attack Casper again but Casper pulled down the top rope
as Apollo was charging and ‘the man who won’t apologize’ went flying over the
top rope to the floor below. Apollo
grumbled to himself as he walked to the back.
Casper stayed to interact with the fans and then left. (20 min draw finish)
The Smashers are
backstage and they say that tonight, they walk out as the New Tag Team
Champions. Smasher #2 says that they
will break the Steel Curtain and will leave HCW in shame. Smasher #1 says that sounds good to him and
they laugh as they head off camera.
Music hits and out
comes the Snake Pit. Tobias, Niven and
Leiton Snake stand on the stage, do a fist bump and then head to the ring. Tonight, they get a rematch for the Six Man
titles that the Ambassador screwed them out of.
They are barely in the ring when the loudspeakers blare out “VAMPIRE
LUNGES FOR EVERYBODY” and out comes the Ambassador, Madman Mason and the Six
Man Tag Team Champions Devastation Inc (Dr. Red Fang, Azrael and Barry
Morningstar). The 5 evil doers soak in
the hatred from the fans and head to the ring.
In order to prevent Devastation Inc getting the upper hand, the Snake
Pit attack them first. This one was a
true slobber knocker. This one went the
distance and even if there was more time on the clock, this one would have
still ended the same. The Snake Pit held
control for most of the match despite interference from Mason and the
Ambassador. The Champs, to their credit,
held in there till the final seconds of the match. As we entered the final minute of the match,
Madman Mason pulled Tobias Snake off the ring apron and nailed him with the
Psychotic Break taking him out of the match.
In the ring, Dr. Red Fang goes for the Vampire Lunge but Niven reverses
it and attempts a back suplex side slam.
Fang nullifies it just as the clock runs out. This one ends in a time limit draw and
Devastation Inc leaves with the belts.
Leiton and Niven check on Tobias as the champs leave. Tobias gets to his feet and says he wants Madman
Mason next week. (30 min draw)
The World Tag Team
Champions the Steel Curtain are backstage with Larry Morton. Larry tells them he felt ‘dirty and sullied’
after talking to Dash Woodbrick. Buzz
Steel hands him a stick of deodorant. “Next
time” he tells Larry, “use that on him and that will get him to shut his trap.” Starbuck says that the Smashers have been longtime
rivals and way back in the day, they fought constantly over the Tag belts. They will fight once again with the
championship hanging in the balance.
Buzz says that the fans will make all the difference tonight. Starbuck leans in and says “Word” and the
champs make their way to the ring.
It is time for our
main event. First, the Smashers make
their way out to massive boos from the fans.
They threaten to smack a couple but show restraint...barely. They get into the ring and continue to mock
the fans until the music changed and the fans pop huge as Buzz and Starbuck
Steel – the World Tag Team Champions – make their way out. They stop on the stage to soak in the energy
from the fans and then make their way to the ring. The warily enter the ring keeping an eye on
their opponents. Buzz and Starbuck both
climb turnbuckles holding their titles proudly high. They step down and hand the belts to the
ref. The match begins seconds
later. The Steel Curtain controlled the
pace of the match off and on for 20 minutes but then the Smashers used their
power and started to take control. Both
teams went for the pin but saves were made on both sides. We join the match at the beginning of the 26th
minute.

The match ends in
a draw much to the dismay of the fans.
The Smashers leave the ring but before the Steel Curtain could do
anything, they were blindsided by Tommy Lightning and ‘the Bounty Hunter” Jake
Montrose. The Steel Curtain were exhausted
from their 30 minute battle so they couldn’t do much more than protect
themselves best they could. The show
comes to an end with Tommy and Jake picking up the Tag Titles and holding them
high as the fans boo the loudest of the night.
Stay tuned. More to come.
