HCW Wrestling Newsletter 2020 #870 - (11/18)

Hello Wrestling Fans and welcome back to another episode of the HCW Wrestling Newsletter.  On the show today, both the US Champion Rad Gumbo and the new World Champion Jack Lumber will be on hand to address their attackers from the last show.  Also, the Six Man Tag Team Champions will also be in action as well as the Hardcore Champion.

The show begins back in the office of the GM where ‘Sassy’ Maxine DeVito is still stewing after being outsmarted by Violet and Korbi last week.  She starts to plan on how she’ll be dealing with Violet for their upcoming match.  She mummers to herself “So Korbi will be banned from backstage so she’ll be a non-factor.  I want THIS referee for the match.  Looks Good.”  She then looks directly at the camera and states “Violet, you’re time is up” and then begins to cackle maniacally.  The camera fades out.

Pyro goes off and our first show is ready to kick off.  First, Tobias Snake comes out with his Snake Pit brothers Niven and Leiton.  They do a fist bump and Tobias makes his way to the ring to a mixed reaction from the crowd.  He gets into the ring and climbs the turnbuckles.  The music changes and the fans pop as the Hardcore Champion Biceps Bannerman makes his way out.  He walks to the ring like a man on a mission high-fiving the fans along the way.  He gets into the ring and it’s asked what the stipulation will be for this match.  Before the champ can respond, Tobias pulls out a coal miner’s glove.  I guess we have our answer.  The match was about as even as it could be with neither man never getting a leg up over the other.  Biceps started the match off with a spinebuster and a 2 count.  Biceps used the glove first hitting Tobias with a loaded glove low blow which doubled Tobias over but the challenger didn’t’ stay down as he must have been wearing some protection and he hits Biceps with a Hook and Ladder facebuster and almost got the 3 but Biceps got his foot on the bottom rope in the nick of time.   A few minutes later, Biceps trapped Tobias in the Biceps Crunch but Tobias wiggled out of it dropping the champ with a snap DDT.  The champ hits a loaded flying fist drop but Tobias hits the Dirty Deeds DDT.  Both men are down.  After a bit of slowness in the action (they have been beating the hell out of each other), Biceps mauls Tobias with a loaded glove getting the blood to start flowing.  Tobias manages to get Biceps to the top turnbuckle and attempts to hit a double underhook superplex but Biceps reverses it knocking Tobias to the mat.  Tobias hits the ropes and Biceps catches him hitting a spinebuster.  He makes the cover hooking the leg securely and gets the 1-2-3.  Biceps gets the win but as soon as his arm was raised in victory, he was attacked from behind by a masked man who pummeled Biceps with the coal miner’s glove giving him a crimson mask.  The masked man left abruptly.  Biceps had to be helped to the back.  (15 min)

Goldie Locks is backstage and says that she wants J9 in a match at the PPV and says that the winner will get to choose the stipulation for the PPV match.  She knows what she wants and waits to see what J9 responds with.

We head back to the ring and Phat Sol makes his way out first.  The fans pop as he makes his way down to the ring.  His music is cut short when Ivan Dragovich started to make his way out.  The fans boo as Ivan powerwalks to the ring flipping the fans off in the process.  He gets into the ring and immediately attacks Phat starting this one off.  Phat managed to take control early but then Ivan just began over powering him.  The relatively short match came to an end after Phat went for the Phat Phat, missed and Ivan hit him with a swinging side slam.  The forcibly leaned on Phat’s shoulders to keep him down and he got the 3 count.  Ivan gets the win much to the fans’ dismay.  Both men eventually made their way to the back.  (11 min)

Backstage, the US Champion Rad Gumbo has words for his attacker Madman Mason.  “Mason, mon ami, you tink you can just attack Le Champion and get away with it?  Dat’s not da way dis works.  You want to jump on dis Cajun?  You made da wrong choice.

Our next match begins with Betsy Cummings making her way out to the ring.  The fans boo her and she responds by flipping them off.  She gets in the ring and continues to mock the fans until the music changes and out comes Goldie Locks.  The fans give her a nice pop and she makes her way to the ring.  Betsy goes on the offensive before Goldie gets her jacket off but that attack doesn’t last long. Goldie goes toe to toe with Betsy until the 4 minute mark when Betsy is tossed out of the ring.  J9 is seen sneaking in through the crowd and hops the barrier still unseen.  She sneaks into the ring but miscalculates before attacking Goldie.  She was supposed to wait until the ref counted to 10 and counted Betsy out but she got in beforehand and the ref saw her hitting Goldie from behind and immediately disqualified Betsy for the outside interference.  Goldie recovers and hurls J9 from the ring.  J9 leaves cursing at Goldie.  Goldie interacts with the fans briefly before heading to the back.  (4 min win via DQ)

Backstage, Dash Woodbrick and his new pal Apollo Gyze are cutting a promo.  Dash says that once they win their match tonight, they will be the #1 contenders for the Tag Team belts.  Apollo tells Dash never to apologize for kicking someone’s ass…especially if they deserve it and their opponents tonight do deserve it.

We head back to the ring for our next match.  First, the team of Apollo Gyze and Dash Woodbrick make their way out to massive booing; probably the loudest of the night so far.  They make their way down to the ring and enter.  They do their best to ignore the fans.  The music changes and out comes Ghee Buttersnaps and Ovaltine Jackson.  The duo get a nice reception from the crowd as they head to the ring.  Apollo and Dash immediately attack but the ref gets control back early and starts the match officially.  The attack played into Dash and Apollo’s favor and they surprisingly owned the match.  Apollo and Dash probably could have ended it sooner but I think they were trying to send the champs a message.  Apollo hits Ovaltine with a sit out powerbomb and then tags Dash in.  Dash goes to the corner and begins stomping his foot on the mat.  The tempo picks up and then he nails Ovaltine with a superkick.  Dash makes the cover and gets the 1-2-3.  Dash and Apollo get the win and now are the number one contenders to the Tag belts.  A very impressive win and show from a team who has only teamed together one time.  (21 min)

We head back to the GM office and Maxine is clapping her hands for joy after seeing Dash and Apollo got their win.  “Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen” she says in her best Emperor Palpatine voice.  “Soon, very soon and I will have it all.”  She begins laughing that evil laugh of hers.  Man, she sure has become creepy as of late.

We go back to the ring for our next match.  First, Felicia Cummings comes out first and makes her way to the ring.  She doesn’t wait long as Hayley Hailstorm’s music hits but no one comes out immediately.  She finally does but she’s not wearing typical wrestling gear.  In fact, she’s actually dressed like the comic character ‘Warrior Nun Areala’.  Hayley gets on the mic and says she just came from a cosplay event but she’s here now.  Felicia sneers at her and attacks her to start the match.   Felicia dominated the match early but the ‘small but powerful’ Hailstorm took the fight to her unsuspecting opponent.  Felicia couldn’t stop the storm and after a Death Valley Driver, Hayley made the pin and got the 3 count.  Hayley gets the win and the fans pop huge as she has her arm raised in victory.  She celebrates with the fans before heading to the back.  (12 min)

We meet the World Champion Jack Lumber backstage.  Jack calls Prophet a coward for attacking him after he had just finished wrestling.  He tells the King that he hopes he brings his bag of tricks because Jack is going to turn them all on him and OWN him just like he did when he beat the false prophet for the title.  Jack is all serious when he says the words “Prophet, this lumberjack is going to turn you into sawdust.”  He then walks off.

It’s time for our main event.  First, the Muscle Trio come out wearing their rainbow colored bull horns and carrying boxes of their ‘Booty O’s’ cereal.  They goof around with the fans briefly before entering the ring.   They don’t get to do too much as the lights go dim and we see 3 single lit lanterns lightly illuminate the stage.  Out comes the Six Man Tag Team champions Otto Ruthless, Talon McFrost and Wilber Townsend.  The fans boo as the trio slowly make their way to the ring.  The champs get into the ring and the lights slowly come up.  We don’t have to wait long for the action as the match begins right away.  Wilber and company take early control but Otto ends up getting injured and is out of commission for 5 minutes early on.  About 15 minutes into the match, the Muscles Trio got Otto in the ring and continued to inflict punishment and not allowing him to tag out.  They kept distracting the ref beating the heels at their own game.  Otto remained in the ring for 14 minutes before making a hot tag to Talon.  Talon gets into the ring but then is triple teamed by the Trio.  Talon manages to lock McGuire in the Yukon Cloverleaf but a save from Weasley and Thorpe broke the hold and they hit Talon with a flying headscissors from Weasley, a belly to belly suplex from Thorpe and a diving crossbody from McGuire.  The bell then rang bringing this one to a draw finish.  The champs retain on a time limit draw and the fans weren’t happy with the turnout.  Wilber and crew grabbed their titles and made for the stage.  Wilber gets on the mic and says it doesn’t matter who takes them on…they will beat them all…including the Steel Curtain and their fat friend (not a nice thing to say about Biceps Bannerman).  The fans boo as they head backstage.  The Trio say at ringside with the fans as the show comes to an end.

That’s it for now.  Stay tuned.  More to come.

HCW Wrestling Newsletter 2020 #869 - (11/14) – Saturday Night Showdown

Hello fans and welcome to another installment of the HCW Wrestling Newsletter.  Tonight, we have our version of a Saturday’s matinee event.  Tonight, we have a stacked card with 5 marquee matches headlined by World Champion Rad Gumbo defending his title against the Champion of the Forest Jack Lumber.

The show begins with some pyro and an appearance by the GM ‘Sassy’ Maxine DeVito.  The fans boo as Maxine makes her way out.  She states that the matches these ungrateful fans get to watch are main event class and they’re lucky she isn’t charging them a premium.  The booing intensifies.  She makes an announcement that a Ladies Battle Royal will be in 3 weeks to determine who will go on to meet Catalina for the title.  She then states that both Violet Valkyrie and Korbi Kong (the fans pop) will NOT be participating (booing continues).   This brings out Violet and Korbi and the fans pop once again.  Violet challenges Maxine’s authority to do that and Korbi offers a solution.  “How about this…Each of us challenge YOU to a match.  If we lose, we are out.  If we win, we are in.”  Maxine can’t answer fast enough.  “You got it.  I beat you both when I was just a newbie and now that I have some experience behind me, you’re both toast.”  She laughs and walks off but before she leaves, she says that since Korbi came up with the idea, she can be the first victim.  She walks off laughing.  Violet and Korbi whisper something to each other and head to the back.

Our first match is ready to kick off.  Music hits and out comes Master Bull to a nice pop from the crowd.  He makes his way down to the ring and enters.  He climbs the turnbuckle eliciting a pop from the crowd.  His music is abruptly cut off when Dash Woodbrick makes his way out.  Dash is booed heavily and he sneers at the fans as he makes the trek to the ring.  He makes some obscene gestures towards Bull who looks ready for a fight.  The match begins with Dash getting the upper hand for the first 3 minutes of the match.  Bull then began battling back and Dash couldn’t believe it.  At the 10 minute mark, Dash went for a hammerlock powerbomb but Bull reversed it and hit a Roman Powerslam.  He made the cover and got the 3 count.  Master Bull gets the win but Dash immediately attacks him but as Bull fights him off, Apollo Gyze comes out.  Bull starts to overpower Dash and whips him to the ropes only for Apollo to grab Dash and pull him out of the ring to safety.  It seems like an alliance may be in the works here.  Dash and Apollo leave to boos from the crowd.  Master Bull stays and interacts with the fans before leaving.

Backstage, the Steel Curtain meet up with the Tag Team Champions Drew the Canadian Love Machine and Davis Hoffmeister.  Buzz congratulates them on their successful run as champs.  Starbuck says that the fans here deserve a PPV event and asks if they’d be open to a non-title match.  Buzz clarifies that they are not making a run at the belts…at least not now. Davis and Drew agree and shake hands.  Looks like we got ourselves another match on the card.

We head back to the ring for our next match.  “KORBI KONG SMASH” blares and out comes Korbi to a nice pop from the crowd.   She shakes hands with the fans on her way to the ring.  She enters and climbs the turnbuckle to a nice pop from the crowd.  Her music gets cut off as ‘Sassy’ Maxine DeVito comes out and makes her way to the ring.  The fans boo the crap out of her and she nonchalantly flips them off.  The match begins almost immediately.   Korbi got the early lead but then Maxine did some not so nice things and took over the pace of the match. About 11 minutes in, Korbi started to take control of the match back.  A few minutes later, Maxine “accidentally” takes out the ref.  She then goes to grab a chair to use on Korbi.  Just then, Violet Valkyrie comes running out wearing a referee shirt.  She slides into the ring and grabs the chair from Maxine.  Maxine is livid and begins screaming at Violet.  Korbi recovers and grabs Maxine putting her in an Arm Triangle Lock.  Maxine is trapped in the center of the ring.  Violet keeps asking her if she gives up and Maxine eventually taps out but Violet doesn’t see it as she turned away for a moment.  Maxine began screaming and slapping the mat harder.  Violet turned around, saw the submission and called for the bell.  Maxine rolled out of the ring holding her arm.  Violet raises Korbi’s arm in victory.  Korbi solidifies her spot in the Ladies Battle Royal.  Maxine mutters and curses her way to the back.  Korbi and Violet shake hands and eventually leave.  (16 min)

We head backstage with Apollo Gyze and Dash Woodbrick.  Dash thanks Apollo for his timely intervention.  Apollo says he’s had an epiphany.  He says that he and Dash should team up and make a run after the Tag Team titles.  Dash thinks it’s a great plan and they shake on it.  Looks like trouble in the making.

Next up, music hits and out comes the Steel Curtain – Buzz and Starbuck Steel.  They get a huge pop as they make their way out and to the ring.  After a moment, the Tag Team Champions ‘the Hoff’ and the CLM make their way out to a huge pop from the crowd.  They make their way to the ring and meet the Curtain in the center. Davis tells them not to hold back.  Starbuck says “we won’t”.  Drew says “We wouldn’t expect any less”.  The four men shake hands and the match begins after Starbuck and Drew went to their respective corners.  This was a hard fought match that saw the Curtain take the lead early but the champs showed their dominance and controlled the match until the end.  There were lots of pin attempts followed by saves on both sides.  This battle could have gone on longer if the time limit hadn’t gotten in the way.  In the final minute of the match, all four men were in the ring.  Davis dropped Buzz with a clothesline and Drew executed a handstand head scissors.  Buzz popped up and hit Drew with a Superman punch and Starbuck took Davis to the 4 corners bouncing his head off each of the top turnbuckles.  When the bell rang bringing this one to a draw finish, both teams looked exhausted but wanted to keep going.  After a little trepidation, all 4 men met in the center of the ring and shook hands and the place practically exploded.  The Steel Curtain left first and the champs followed.  (30 min draw – 5 star match)

Jack Lumber is backstage cutting a promo.  “Ever since losing the World title, I’ve only had one thing on my mind…regaining it.  I came close in the Chamber only to miss my goal.  Tonight, I rectify that and bring everything I have to the ring.  Lumberjacks around the world will join me virtually for a championship Zoom call.  Gumbo, I’m ready and a tree with your name on it is ready to be planted.  See you in the ring.”

Next, Texas Wildfire makes his way out to a huge pop from the crowd.  He says that one of the most prestigious titles is one that has to be defended on TV and that is the TV title.  He then issues a challenge to Freedom Fighter Flash for his spot in the top 10.  Flash comes out and calls Wildfire washed up for still being an uncrowned champion but if he wants to get his ass kicked, he’d be happy to oblige.  Flash held the advantage for the entire match but only just barely.  Wildfire hit the Hangman’s Clothesline at the 10 minute mark for a 2 count. Wildfire hung in there for another 3 minutes and after Flash headbutted him in the chest, TW hits the Hangman’s Clothesline again and this time with a secure hook of the leg, he gets the 1-2-3.  Texas Wildfire is back in the Top 10.  It’s a bit apropos that it was Starbuck who beat him for the title and now, he is getting another shot at the belt.  (13 min)

Backstage, the combined US and World Champion ‘the Ragin Cajun’ Rad Gumbo is with his manager.  “Mon Ami, Jack Lumber, I am da combined champion…Le Champion if you will.  You are good but you are not Gumbo Great.  Tonight though, you have an opportunity to show me how good you really are.  The Chamber was one thing but dis one is you and me…one on one.  Time to go to work.”  Gumbo and his manager head to the ring.

It’s time for our Main Event. “TIMMMMMMBERRRR and Choppin’ Wood and Lookin’ good” sounds through the speakers.  The fans pop as Lumber makes his way to the stage.  He soaks it in and then heads to the ring.  He enters and climbs the turnbuckle holding both arms in the air.  The fans continue to pop.  The music changes and we hear “GUMBO 730 MEANS ITS SUPPA TIME, BITCH” and out comes Rad Gumbo and his manager Ms. Alexandria.  He makes his way to the ring wearing the World Title around his waist and carrying the US title over his shoulder.  He gets into the ring and his manager follows.   He climbs the turnbuckle, removes the World title and holds both titles high.   The fans pop huge for the Cajun.  He steps down and hands the US title to Ms. Alexandria.  Just then, Max McGillicutty comes out wearing a ref shirt.  It seems that the ref in the ring was getting paid under the table to cost Jack the match.  Max says he’s here to ensure that the other ref calls the match fair and square.

HCW Wrestling Newsletter 2020 #868 - (11/11)

Hello fans and welcome back to another installment of the HCW Wrestling Newsletter.  Things don’t take long to kick off when Jack Lumber makes his way onto the stage.  The fans pop and Jack soaks it in.  He then lets the fans know that he is cashing in his contract at the Supershow this Saturday.  The fans pop again but then change their tune when ‘Sassy’ Maxine DeVito comes out.  She snatches the mic out of Jack’s hand.  She tells Jack that there were some underhanded shenanigans going on and she’s going to dig into the FRAUD perpetuated by someone acting on his behalf.  Maxine says that Jack may hold a contract but one man is due for a title shot before him.  If Jack wants a shot at the World title on Saturday, tonight, he has to take on ‘Bad News’ Marvin Barnes.  Maxine says that Jack will have an uphill battle and says that as he ‘stole’ the title match, he will NOT win tonight.  She walks off laughing.   Jack smirks and then leaves also.

The show kicks off with some pyro and out comes the Anytime/Anywhere Champion Maximillian Redbeard.  He gets into the ring and says that he did what anyone in the back would have done – even that lowlife Apollo Gyze – capitalize on a situation.  He got lucky and defeated Apollo to win the AA title.  He says he feels a little bad and wants to offer Apollo a shot at regaining that title tonight.  “APOLLO GYZE DON’T APOLOGIZE” blares over the loudspeakers and out comes Apollo.  He is booed heavily as he makes his way to the ring.  He says that Redbeard stole his title and tonight, he’s taking it back.  The bell rings.  Apollo took the match hard to Redbeard but then someone in all black hit Apollo with a chair knocking him out and causing the disqualification.  Apollo wins the match but not the title.  (4 min)  The man in black then destroys Redbeard with the chair softening him up.  He has a ref of his own and calls for the bell.  Those chair shots really softened Redbeard up.  The man in black dominated the champ for 5 whopping minutes before Redbeard got one shot in.  10 punches, a superkick and a clothesline later and Redbeard was down.  The man removes the mask and it’s…Scooter J.  SJ makes the pin and gets the 3 count.  Scooter J just became the NEW ANYTIME/ANYWHERE CHAMPION.   He takes the title and holds it high laughing and pointing to his head (he outsmarted everyone).   He takes the title and leaves.  (11 min)

‘Bad News’ Marvin Barnes is backstage.  “Lumber slumber, I’ve got some bad news for ya…you are trying to take my spot?  You can’t hold a candle to me and tonight, you’ll wish you never set foot in the ring with me.”  He walks off.

We head back to the ring for our next match.  First, TNT comes out and he’s booed as he makes his way to the ring.  He gets in and continues to incite the crowd.  Next, “Hey Margarita” plays and out comes the Masked Banana to a HUGE pop from the crowd.  He stops by the Banana Boat to visit his fans before heading to the ring.  TNT attacks him right off the bat.  His advantage doesn’t last long.  For 10 minutes, the match was practically even but then spirited on by his fans, MB began to destroy TNT. Although it took an additional 8 minutes, MB outwrestled his opponent.  TNT tried to bounce off the ropes only to slip and slide on a banana peel before hitting the Banana Cream Pie.  MB makes the cover and gets the 3 count.  The fans pop as MB has his hand raised.  TNT goes to the corner and removes the turnbuckle cover.  He then attacks MB from behind and smashes MB’s head into the turnbuckle.  Blood starts to show through his mask.  TNT scoffs and then leaves.  The Masked Banana is helped to the back to a nice applause from the fans.  (18 min)

Apollo Gyze is sitting in the back with his chin resting on his fist. “Nobody knows…the troubles I’ve seen.  Nobody knows…my sorrow.”  He looks up as the Wicked Prophet walks past.  Prophet stops and turns to him and says “Good God, man up!”  He then walks away.  Apollo stand up.  “Yeah, I’ll do that” and walks off.

J9 makes her way out to booing from the crowd.  She gets in the ring and calls out Goldie Locks.  Goldie rushes down to the ring but J9 bails.  She tells Goldie that she is the weak link and will never amount to anything.  Goldie suggests they have a match. J9 says she will determine the when and where and walks off as the crowd boos her.  Goldie interacts with the fans before leaving.

Our next match begins with Ghee Buttersnaps and Ovaltine Jackson making their way out.  The fans give them a nice pop.  Next, the Freedom Fighters – Justice and Flash – make their way out and the fans boo the crap out of them.  They mostly ignore the fans and get in the ring.  They take out their frustrations on their challengers.  It doesn’t last long as Ghee and Ovaltine flex their muscles and take the match to the Fighters.  During the match, Flash gets knocked from the apron and is injured leaving Justice to fend for himself.  At the 18 minute mark, Ghee smashes Justice in the corner and then rolls him up getting the 1-2-3.  Ghee and Ovaltine get the win.  The fans pop as they have their arms raised in victory.  They leave.  Eventually, the Fighters regroup and leave on their own.  (18 min)

We cut backstage where we see J9 having attacked Goldie Locks.  J9 then drags Goldie to the ring by her hair.  She rolls her into the ring and yells at the timekeeper to ring the bell.  Goldie begins to battle back and much to J9’s surprise, she began taking the match to her.  Not wanting to deal with that, she exited the ring and grabbed a steel chair and hit Goldie with it resulting in a disqualification.  J9 hits her a second time with the chair before the ref wrestled it away from her.  She stomped on her one final time for good measure and left the ring.  Goldie recovered and left under her own power.  (7 ½ minutes)

Backstage, Jack Lumber addresses Marvin Barnes:  “You say you have some bad news for me?  Guess what?  I’m not subscribing to your ‘fake news’.  With the power of my Lumbermaniacs in my corner, tonight, I prove to you, Maxine and the world why I’m the only #1 contender for the World title.  I’ll see you in the ring.”

We head back to the ring for our next match.  “TIMMMMMMMMMMBER” blares from the loudspeakers and out comes the flannel wearing lumberjack Jack Lumber.  The fans pop huge for him.  As he makes his way to the ring, he sees the area where his Lumbermaniacs would be sitting is restricted by caution tape.  Jack is a little perplexed.  He gets in the ring and the fans continue to pop for him.  His music is abruptly cut off as Sassy Maxine DeVito comes out.  The fans boo her.  She says that she is only here to ensure the right person wins.  She removes her jacket revealing a ref’s outfit.  Maxine is looking to stack the deck against Jack to ensure he loses.  Maxine tells Jack that if he loses, he is OUT of the World title hunt.  “I’VE GOT SOME BAD NEWS FOR YA” screams throughout the arena and ‘Bad News’ Marvin Barnes makes his way out.  The fans boo him and he flips them off.  He gets into the ring and Maxine whispers something to him.  He laughs.  Just before she can call for the bell, new music plays and out comes Max McGillicutty.  Max makes his way to the ring quickly and says that he is managing Jack for this match tonight.  Maxine looks put off but starts the match.  Maxine, as expected, made very slow counts when Jack went for a pin and very fast counts for Marvin.  For 15 minutes, the match was practically even with Max and Maxine effectively cancelling the other out.  Barnes went for the Star Effect sitout side slam but Jack managed to wriggle out of it and planted Marvin with a Yukon bodyslam.  He made the cover and Max got in the ring and stood over Maxine to ensure she did a proper count.  It was slow but she counted 1…2…3.  Jack Lumber gets the win and is officially the #1 contender for the World Title.  Jack celebrates as Maxine takes off in a huff.  Jack shakes hands with Max and Max leaves letting Jack celebrate with the fans until he departed.  (16 min)

Catalina Harper is backstage and she says that the world is out to screw her out of her title.  “This title is my life.  It allows me to feed my litter of cats.  No one is taking this title from me.  Guaranteed.”   She walks off.

It’s time for our main event.  First, the challenger Lavender Gooms comes out to a nice pop from the crowd.  She gets into the ring but the Ladies Champion’s music hits and out comes Catalina Harper.  She is wearing her title over her shoulder.  She saunters down to the ring amid the booing from the fans.  She gets in the ring and grabs a mic.  She reminds us that between her two title runs, she’s held the title for the majority of 2020.  The fans boo.  She sneers at them and tells the ref to start the match.  As expected, Catalina dominated the match and probably had it go longer than it should but after playing around with her opponent, she finally went for the pin after hitting a jaw jacker.  She got the uncontested 1-2-3.  Catalina wins the match and retains her title.  The show comes to an end with Catalina standing tall in the ring holding the title high.

HCW Wrestling Newsletter 2020 #867 - (11/04) – PPV fallout

Hello fans and welcome back to another installment of the HCW Wrestling Newsletter.  The action begins right off the bat when the new World Champion (and US title holder) ‘the Ragin Cajun’ Rad Gumbo comes out with his manager Ms. Alexandria.  Gumbo has a mic and says he has something he wants to say but he is interrupted by GM ‘Sassy’ Maxine DeVito.  “Go ahead…don’t let me interrupt you” Maxine says.  Rad says that he has no intention of relinquishing the US title.  Maxine doesn’t seem phased.  Rad says that he is going to be a dual champion whether management likes it or not.  Maxine, to everyone’s surprise, says she has no issues with it.  Gumbo seems a little surprised.  As Rad is getting ready to leave, Maxine says she has an announcement of her own.  “You don’t want to give up the US title?  That’s fine however…tonight, you are defending the US title.”  Gumbo says ok and heads to the back to get prepared without even knowing who his opponent will be.  Maxine is then interrupted by the flannel wearing lumberjack Jack Lumber.  Jack’s standard phrase does not sound through the loudspeakers (I think Maxine has those on lockdown).  Jack says that he took Gumbo to the limit but came up short however he DID make it to the final two and therefore should get the first World title shot at Gumbo.  He is interrupted as former champion Scooter J comes out with TNT following behind.   Scooter J says that as the former champion, he is due a rematch.  Jack reminds him that he was the first person eliminated in the chamber and shouldn’t get anything.  Maxine interjects and says that tonight, Jack and Scooter J will meet in a match.  On the line are two envelopes that are locked in her desk.  One is for a shot tonight at Gumbo’s US title and the other is termination papers.  The winner gets a shot at the title and the other…well, could be on the unemployment line…it all depends on what that second envelope holds.  SJ and Lumber agree to the stipulation.  Maxine says that match is happening now.

Scooter J is declared the winner and he jumps for joy pointing and laughing at Jack.  Scooter J and TNT make their way to the back.  Jack looks somber and shakes hands with the fans before making his way to the back.

On the way back to her office, Maxine is intercepted by Violet Valkyrie and Korbi Kong.  Korbi says that Maxine planned all this time to screw them all out of the title in favor of keeping the belt on the cat lady.  Violet says that they are not done by a longshot of dealing with Maxine and her bullshit but tonight, they are demanding J9 meet them in the ring and explain her actions.  Korbi tilts her head ever so slightly looking over Maxine’s shoulder and she nods as a smile crosses her lips.  Maxine asks what she’s looking at and turns around but sees nothing.  Maxine lets out a “HUMPF” and walks away.  Violet asks what she saw and Korbi motions her to follow.

The Wicked Prophet comes out and says that even though he has a MITB contract, he needs to re-estabilish himself in the top 10 so tonight, he is challenging Billy Robbins for his spot in the top 10.

Wicked Prophet vs Billy Robbins:  For the first 7 minutes of the match, both men went toe to toe.  After Prophet caught Billy with the Unrighteous Dominion, the match began going his way but Billy refused to give up.  Prophet locked Billy in the Crucifix Clutch twice but he wouldn’t tap out.  Finally, at the 18 minute mark, Prophet caught Billy with the ‘Fire, walk with me’ and he made the cover getting the uncontested 1-2-3.  Wicked Prophet is back in the top 10.  He holds his briefcase high as the fans boo.  He eventually leaves.

Back in the office of the GM, the lights are out but there is someone rummaging thorugh the GM desk.  A small light illuminates the drawer and the mystery person picks up both envelopes.  The person sets them down and does a little more digging before hearing Maxine outside the office once again being stopped by someone.  The person puts the envelopes back in the drawer, closes it quietly and then hides.  Maxine enters her office and turns the light on.  She goes to a closet in the back and the person, dressed in black (with maybe a hint of yellow showing) sneaks out before Maxine notices.

We head to the ring next where J9 and Goldie Locks come out to booing from the crowd.  J9 sneers at the fans.  She gets into the ring and says that the fans were never in her corner.  They didn’t want to see her succeed.  All they cared about is Korbi Kong and Violet Valkyrie.  This brought out Korbi and Violet who calmly walked to the ring.  Violet gets a mic and starts to rub her eyes.  “Listen sister, when we first showed up, do you think we were immediately put into the Title picture?  No, we had to earn our way.  You cry about the fans?  The fans, fickle as they are, like who they’re going to like and boo who they don’t.  Seems to me you’re just skating on others’ reputations and thinking you get to cash in.  Not here you don’t.”  She hands the mic to Korbi.  “Two ladies in this ring are former champions and two…are not.  Instead of jumping the biggest dog in the yard, how about earning your spot?  Quit making excuses and do what you’re being paid to do.  That does NOT mean hiding behind others.”  She looks at Goldie who sneers at her.  J9 looks hurt.  “You want me to earn my spot…did I hear you correctly?  Listen, I’m younger than you; I’m definitely more agile than you and…news flash…I’m BETTER than you.”  She and Goldie immediately attack Korbi and Violet and our match is underway.   Right off the bat, Goldie and J9 tried to double team Korbi but it did no good.  Goldie did most of the work in the ring with J9 only coming in for double teaming action or to make the save from a pin or submission.  This went on for 14 minutes.  Goldie finally got J9 to tag in but was dominated by Violet and Korbi.  Korbi got a near fall after hitting J9 with a stiff forearm uppercut but Goldie made the save pulling Korbi off.   Violet rushed over and took Goldie to the floor with a flying tackle.  Korbi hit J9 with a backbreaker and with no one to make the save, got the 1-2-3.  Violet and Korbi score a big win.  The ladies have their arms raised by the ref in victory and then leave.  Goldie crawled back into the ring only to be verbally blasted by J9 for “abandoning her”.  J9 shoved Goldie once and that was all it took.  Goldie left the ring throwing her hands up in frustration and walked away.  J9 sneered at the fans as they mocked her.  She eventually left.  (20 min)

Starbuck and Buzz Steel are backstage.  Buzz says that it was just desserts defeating Flagg and Starbuck says the same for defeating Apollo.  They head to the ring for Starbucks TV title defense.

Scooter J and Jack Lumber show up in Maxine’s office.  Maxine gives Scooter J his envelope which contains the contract for a shot at Gumbo’s US title tonight.  He signs it and walks off laughing.  An evil smile crosses Maxine’s face.  She hands Jack the other envelope but he leaves without opening it.

We head back to the ring for our TV title match.  First, the challenger Freedom Fighter Flash comes out with his tag team partner Justice and they head to the ring as the fans booed.  The music changed as soon as the Freedom Fighters entered the ring and out comes TV Champion Starbuck Steel and his brother Buzz Steel.  The duo are heavily cheered and make their way to the ring.   The bell rings and Starbuck starts off with a Hangman’s DDT.  He is distracted by Justice and that gives Flash time to get to his feet, knock Starbuck off his and hit a standing shooting star press.  Buzz then runs interference so that Flash doesn’t go for a pin.  Flash hits a Tiger Driver but before he can go for the pin, Starbuck rolls him up in a small package and with a hook of the tights, gets the surprising 3 count.  Starbuck gets the win in a very quick 2 minute match.  The Freedom Fighters leave without causing a further scene.  They stay at ringside to interact with the fans while the Omegatron lights up.

Jack Lumber is backstage and looks all depressed.  In walk the Masked Banana and Max McGillicutty (who seems to be sporting a yellow shirt).  MB asks what’s wrong and Jack says it seems he’s been terminated.  Max asks if he even opened up the envelope and Jack says no.  MB demands he open it.  Jack does and a shocked look crosses his face.  It’s not a letter of termination but a contract for a World title shot at Rad Gumbo.  MB and Max smile as MB hands him a pen (don’t ask where he keeps things like that; we don’t want to know) and Jack signs the contract.  It looks like Maxine has been duped and now Jack gets the next World title shot.

Back at ringside, Tommy Lightning comes out mocking Starbuck and Buzz and challenges Buzz to a match right here and now.  Buzz says he has nowhere to be so why not.  It is announced that Starbuck’s match had a 20 minute time limit.  Since only 2 were used, this one will have an 18 minute time limit.  Buzz was back in top form as he practically dismantled Tommy.  Tommy tried on a couple of occasions to leave but Starbuck stopped him.  Buzz destroyed Tommy and at the 16 minute mark, he made the cover and got the pin after hitting a german suplex.  Starbuck and Buzz celebrated once again before leaving a crushed Tommy Lighting behind.

Backstage, the combined World and US Champion Rad Gumbo addresses Scooter J saying he’ll defeat him as easily as they did in the chamber and says he will deal with Jack Lumber all in good time.  Tonight, Rad defends the US title and continues his reign as a dual champion.

Jack walks into Maxine’s office.  She apparently had the monitor off so she didn’t see what transpired.  Jack looks glum and hands the envelope back to Maxine who jumps for joy.  “HA.  You’re out of here tree-man.”  Jack asks her to review the letter as there were some things he wasn’t clear on.  Maxine opens the envelope and a look of shock and horror crosses her face when she sees Jack has signed on for the next shot at the World title.  Jack smiles, shows Maxine his photo copy (so she can’t claim it never happened) and leaves.  Maxine slams her hands on the desk and screams “NOOOOOOOOOOOO”.

It’s time for our main event.  First, Scooter J comes out accompanied by TNT.  They are booed as they make their way to the ring.  Once in the ring, SJ motions like he’s going to be a champion after this match.  Next, we hear the loudspeakers blare out “GUMBO 7:30 MEANS ITS SUPPA TIME, BITCH!” and out comes the combined World and US title holder – ‘the Ragin Cajun’ Rad Gumbo and his manager Ms. Alexandria.  Scooter J tried to get an early advantage by attacking the champ as he entered the ring but Gumbo was prepared.  They fought for a few minutes until TNT gets ejected from ringside after Ms. Alexandria slugged him to keep him from interfering (he didn’t declare in advance he would be there in a managerial capacity).  Scooter J did manage to take control of the match and even had a couple of near falls but the champ was resilient.  At the 26 minute mark, SJ hits the ropes planting Gumbo with a hip toss.  Gumbo managed to roll with it and take Scooter J down and locked him in the New Orleans Crab.  SJ tried to claw his way to a corner but Gumbo had him locked down in the middle of the ring.  Trapped with nowhere to run, Scooter J taps out.  Rad Gumbo gets the win and retains his title by submission victory.  Scooter J rolls out of the ring and makes his way to the back.  Gumbo and Ms. Alexandria celebrate in the ring as the show comes to an end.

We are sure things are not done by a longshot so stay tuned.
