HCW Wrestling Newsletter 2020 #847 (6/10/20)

Hello fans and welcome to our next installment of the HCW Wrestling Newsletter.  As we progress towards our PPV Meltdown which will take place in Phoenix, AZ, tempers begin to flair.  It seems that TV champion Jack Lumber has his sights set on the King and World Champion the Wicked Prophet’s title. 

The show begins heading backstage with J9.  She introduces Violet Valkyrie.  The fans pop.  Violet says that she is challenging Catalina to a match at the PPV with the title on the line.  She says that she’s had a couple of chances and Catalina has somehow managed to sneak away but this time, it will be no countout, no disqualification.  She says she’ll give Catalina until the end of the show to answer.

Pyro goes off and our show is ready to get underway.  The first match of the evening begins with the tag team of Perfect Pecs Stoddard and Shawn ‘Abs of Stone’ Austin making their way out to booing from the crowd.  They flip off the fans and then enter the ring where the booing continues.  The music changes and the fans pop as the Regulators – Mule and Mammoth – make their way out and down to the ring.  Just as they enter thru the ropes, they are attacked by Pecs and Austin.  Finally, the ref gets control back and starts the match.  The Regulators get their double teaming in early and that helped them throughout the match.  At the 14 minute mark, Austin was thrown to the ropes but didn’t see Pecs jaw jacking with the crowd and he crashed into him sending Pecs tumbling to the floor.  Mammoth catches Austin and hip tosses him to the mat.  He makes the cover and gets the 1-2-3.  The Regulators score another win.  They celebrate and leave the ring heading to the back.  Austin is in the ring and he is pissed.  Pecs rolls back in and makes it to his feet.  Austin begins jaw jacking with Pecs.  Austin turns to leave but then spins around and hits Pecs with a right cross. He then hurls Pecs out of the ring.  He brings him to the ramp and hits a fisherman’s suplex onto the unforgiving steel.  Pecs writhes in pain and Austin stomps on his face.  Austin is booed louder than ever.  He flips the fans off and makes his way to the back.  (14 min)

Backstage, J9 meets up with Apollo Gyze.  Apollo says that he’s being made to defend his “spot” in the US title lineup against Davis Hoffmeister.  He calls it unfair and says that when he beats Davis a second time, he won’t be apologizing.

The next match is ready to go.  First, the loudspeakers blare with “AH-TEN-SHUN!  On your feet, MAGGOTS” and out comes Col. Samuel Flagg.  He is booed heavily as he makes his way to the ring.  Flagg steals a sign from a fans and tries to tear it up but it’s make out of some other material which makes it harder to tear.  The fans get a good laugh at that.  Flagg enters the ring.  The music changes and out comes one half of the World Tag Team champions Buzz Steel.  Buzz has a mic.  “Man, how bad is it when you can’t tear something in half.  You have got to be SOOOOOO embarrassed.”  He laughs and that gets the fans to laugh more.  He makes it to the ring and Flagg, who is steaming, leaves the ring to fight Buzz.  Flagg takes control of the match early but it doesn’t take Buzz long to turn the tide.  Buzz hits the Buzzkill at the 2 minute mark but only gets a 1 count.  A few minutes later, Buzz hits the Buzzkill again but Flagg kicks out at 2.  Buzz offers his hand to Flagg but then pokes the Colonel in the eye.  Buzz then hits a German suplex and makes the cover getting the 1-2-3.  The fans pop as Buzz has his arm raised in victory.  He leaves.  Flagg gets to his feet and he’s fuming.  He eventually leaves.  (9 min)

J9 is backstage with Davis Hoffmeister.  Davis says that the last time he met Apollo, he got the better of him.  Now he knows the game and tonight, he gets a shot to right a wrong.  Tonight, he takes Apollo’s spot.  Davis then walks off.

Our next match is ready to go.  First, the other half of the World Tag Team Champions Starbuck Steel comes out to a huge pop from the fans.  He makes his way to the ring.  After a moment, the music changes and out comes Drew the Canadian Love Machine.  The fans pop for him as he makes his way out. He makes his way to the ring and climbs one of the turnbuckles to a pop from the crowd.  He meets Starbuck in the middle of the ring and the two shake hands and the match begins.  Drew hits Starbuck with a stiff uppercut and Starbuck was a bit surprised.  A moment later, he went for a pin and may have grabbed some tights.  Drew kicked out and began having words with Starbuck.  Eventually he calmed down and the match continued.   At the 8 minute mark, Starbuck introduced Drew’s head to each of the 4 corner turnbuckles.  He turned to head back to the ring only to get caught with a superkick from Drew (out of nowhere).  Drew went for the pin (and may have had a hold of some tights) and got the 1-2-3.  Drew gets the win.  Starbuck seemed a little disgruntled but shook it off saying “I would have probably done the same thing.”  The two shook hands in the ring.  Starbuck left first and was followed by Drew a few moments later. (8 min)

J9 is backstage with Hardcore Champion Scooter J.  SJ is mad about having to defend his title again against Madman Mason saying that Mason “belongs in the psycho ward” (SJ is not politically correct).  He says that he defeated him once before and will do it again.

Next on the card is a rematch for a spot in the US title top 10.  First, Davis ‘the Hoff’ Hoffmeister comes out to a huge pop from the crowd.  He makes his way in the ring but his music is cut short when we hear the ever annoying “APOLLO GYZE DON’T APOLOGIZE” and Apollo makes his way out to massive booing from the fans.  He flips them off and makes his way to the ring.  Davis is ready to get started but Apollo keeps trying to shush him from his side of the ring so that he can enter on his own free will.  He takes forever to get in but finally does.  Davis moves in but Apollo pokes him in the eye before hitting an enzuigiri.  Apollo hits the ropes and hits Davis with a running big boot to the chest.  Davis catches his wind back and drops Apollo with a roundhouse kick.   Davis goes for the Hollywood Clutch (camel clutch) but Apollo reverses it trying for the triple powerbomb but Davis wiggles out of it and nails Apollo with a piledriver.  Davis makes the cover and gets the 3 count.  Davis Hoffmeister gets the win in a short 3 minute match.  Davis is now next in line for a shot at the US title.

Apollo makes his way backstage grumbling to himself when he bumps into the flannel wearing TV champion Jack Lumber.  Lumber laughs at him for losing so fast.  Apollo challenges Jack to a match for the TV title.  Jack asks why he should when Apollo couldn’t even last 5 minutes in the ring.  Apollo then insults Jack’s manhood and Jack accepts the match.

J9 is backstage with Leslie Grimes.  Leslie says that Catalina Harper and her flock or gaggle or whatever of cats for too long and she is the one who will defeat her tonight.  J9 asks what her plan of attack is.  “Brains will always win over brawn” Leslie says before walking away.

Up next is our Hardcore title match.  First, creepy music plays and out comes Madman Mason.  Mason slowly walks to the ring as the fans boo him.  He mostly ignores them.  He gets into the ring.  The music changes and out comes the Hardcore Champion Scooter J.  SJ is booed even heavier than Mason was.  He takes offense and responds in kind to the fans.  Mason attacks SJ and the match is underway.  Mason controlled the pace of the match early on but Scooter J began his comeback.  His momentum was disrupted when the World Tag Team Champions the Steel Curtain (Buzz and Starbuck Steel) came out.  SJ turned and began jaw jacking with them.  He turned around only to walk into a jab to the throat by Mason.  Mason made the cover and got the surprising 1-2-3.  Madman Mason has just become the NEW Hardcore Champion.  The Steel Curtain laugh at Scooter J’s misfortune and leave.  SJ is pissed and storms to the back.  Mason celebrates to booing from the fans and eventually leaves.  (17 min)

J9 is wrapping things up with Ladies Champion Catalina Harper.  Catalina makes fun of Leslie’s drawl (actually she doesn’t have one) and says that like all others before her, she too will fall.  J9 asks Catalina if she’s going to accept Violet’s challenge but Catalina laughs at her and walks off without responding.

It’s time for our main event.  First, Leslie Grimes comes out to a small pop from the crowd.  Once in the ring, the music changed and out comes the Ladies Champion Catalina Harper.  Catalina is booed (and hissed at) as she makes her way to the ring.  She gets into the ring and holds the title high as the fans vocalize their dislike for her.  The bell rings and this one is underway.

Catalina gets the win and retains her title.  She asks for a microphone.  “Hey, maybe you’ll beat me next time. Stay PAW-sitive!!”  She laughs until the music changes and out comes Violet Valkyrie.  Catalina is not happy for having her win interrupted.  Violet gets on a mic of her own and says that Catalina had all night to accept her challenge.  She’s here now and wants an answer.  Catalina responds with “Are you KITTEN ME RIGHT MEOW???” Of Course I will kick your tail!  And so your feeble little mind can understand it, yes, I accept the match.”

The fans pop at this revelation and the show comes to an end with the two ladies starring daggers at each other.

HCW Wrestling Newsletter 2020 #846 (6/3/20)

Hello fans and welcome back to another installment of the HCW Wrestling Newsletter.   On the card today, Phat Sol defends the Anytime/Anywhere title; the King and World Champion the Wicked Prophet defends the World title and a whole lot more.  After pyro goes off, we head backstage with J9.

Hello fans.  I’m J9 and I’m here to bring you the behind the scenes action with the superstars of HCW. First, I’d like to bring in the A/A Champion Phat Sol.  Phat, tonight, you take on Ovaltine Jackson for that belt.  What are your thoughts?

Phat Sol:  J9, great to be here and happy to be defending my title anytime, anywhere against all comers.  Tonight, I get Ovaltine Jackson and he’s one tough dude.  I won’t be taking him lightly but I’m confident I’ll be walking out with my title intact.

J9:  Great to hear.  Good luck with your match.

PS:  Thanks.  And thanks to the fans for supporting me.  This belt is for you.

Phat Sol leaves but before we can cut off, ‘Sassy Maxine DeVito walks over and forcibly takes the mic from J9.  “Everywhere I turn, someone is out to screw me out of something.  I held the Money in the Bank contract but then “lost” my shot to that upstart Korbi Kong.  I’m supposed to be the top contender but now I’m told I have to wrestle Hayley Hailstorm.  While I don’t have anything bad to say about her, this is bullsh!t that management keeps trying to hold me back.  Mark my words, I’ll do what I have to in order to get my Ladies title back.  Catalina or whomever ends up being the champion, I’m coming for that belt and I will regain it.”  Maxine then walks off with J9 being left speechless.

Our first match is ready to get underway.  First, Ovaltine Jackson makes his way out to a nice pop from the crowd.  He interacts with the fans briefly before entering the ring.   Next, the music changed and out comes the Anytime/Anywhere Champion Phat Sol.  Phat also interacts with the fans (or phans as he calls them) and then enters the ring.  He hands the title to the ref who starts the match.  The match was even or slightly in Ovaltine’s favor for the first 6 minutes of the match but then the champ began kicking things into high gear.  He dominated Ovaltine and got a few near falls but couldn’t keep Jackson down.  As the time limit entered the final minute, Phat hits the Phat’s Enough pretty much out of nowhere and made the cover hooking the leg to get the 1-2-3 just before the time limit was set to expire.  Phat Sol gets the win and retains his title.  The fans pop for him as he takes his title from the ref.  He walked over and helped Ovaltine to his feet and the two shook hands.  They then went to the back.  (19 1/2 min)

We go backstage again with J9 and she’s with Hayley Hailstorm and her manager Matt Preacher.  Preacher speaks up for Hayley saying that Maxine and do all the huffing and puffing she wants but she will NEVER be on Hayley’s level.  Hayley says that she respects Maxine for what she’s done in the business but tonight is not about respect; it’s about moving forward.  She feels she’s been on the backburner for too long and tonight, she moves up the rankings and will have a Ladies title match in the near future.  They leave and head to the ring.

Our next match is ready to get underway.

      

     VS.        

‘Sassy’ Maxine DeVito comes out first to massive booing from the crowd.  She is wearing the colors of her logo which comes from her favorite team the Chicago Cubs.  She gets into the ring and jaw jacks with the fans until the music changed and out comes Hayley Hailstorm with her manager Matt Preacher.  The two head down to the ring and Hayley enters while Preacher stays on the outside.  The match begins and Hayley dominates Maxine.  At the five minute mark, Hayley connects with the What the Hail but doesn’t go for the pin.  She then drops Maxine with a lariat and makes the slow cover only to get a 1 count.  Maxine is up on her feet fast and hurls Hayley out of the ring.  She follows her out; throwing a warning finger in Preacher’s direction before hurling Hayley into the steel steps.  She stands over Hayley but keeps an ear open to the ref’s count.  Just before he reached 10, Maxine rolled back in the ring and Hayley gets counted out.  Maxine gets the win by count out and she is booed as she gloats and then makes her way to the back.  Preacher helped Hayley up and they made their way to the back also.  (6 ½ min)

The loudspeakers blare “APOLLO GYZE DON’T APOLOGIZE” and out comes Apollo who is booed heavily.  He makes his way to the ring.  He gets on the mic and called out Drew the Canadian Love Machine challenging him for his spot in the TV title line up.  Drew comes out and says he accepts the challenge.  Drew makes his way to the ring but before the match can begin, the loudspeakers light up with “Choppin’ wood and lookin’ good”.  The TV Champion Jack Lumber comes out to a nice pop from the crowd.  He goes to sit at commentary so that he can scout the match.  Apollo looks on with disdain.  The bell rings and this one is off.  The match remained pretty close with Apollo going for the pin more often than Drew but it didn’t get him anywhere as Drew would immediately kick right out.  At the 11 minute mark, Apollo went for the Gorilla press drop moonsault but Drew moved and Apollo landed hard on the mat.  Jack began laughing.  Apollo got mad and got caught in the La Casita by Drew.  Drew went to capitalize on it but Apollo hurled him out of the ring and right into Jack.  Jack, pissed, got up but Apollo came flying through the ropes in a suicide dive taking both Jack and Drew out in the process.  Apollo rolled back in the ring and sat in the corner as the ref counted 1…2…3…4…5…6…7…8…9…10.  Drew gets counted out and the match and the spot in the top 10 are awarded to Apollo Gyze.  Apollo stands there laughing but that laughter is cut short when Drew and Jack chase Apollo to the back.  (11 ½ min)

We had to the office of the GM where Max McGillicutty is sitting.  He tells us that the Meltdown PPV is only a month away and says that even though no matches have officially been announced (that will start next week), he thinks this one will be one for the record books.  He also tells us that tickets are now on sale and he has gotten permission to have this one event take place in the old stomping grounds of the (now retired) Phoenix Heat brand.  Yep, the show will be coming to you live from Phoenix, AZ.  More details will be released over the next few weeks and reminds everyone in attendance and at home to get their tickets early.

Our next match is ready to get underway.

    

        VS       

The loudspeakers once again blare.  “VAMPIRE LUNGES FOR EVERYBODY” and out comes the evil, diabolical Dr. Red Fang and his manager the Ambassador.  Fang snarls, growls and hisses at the fans as he makes his way down and into the ring.  He gets into the ring and continues his menacing ways until the music changes and out comes Texas Wildfire.  The fans pop huge for him as he makes his way down to the ring.  He high fives a few fans and then slides in under the bottom rope.  Fang goes right after him but TW ducks and rushes the ropes and then hits a flying tackle that sends Fang tumbling out of the ring.  Once the bell rang, TW controlled the pace of the match.  TW starts off with a hangman’s clothesline and a 1 count.  Fang went for the Transylvania piledriver but TW nullified it.  TW dazes Fang with a bionic elbow and gets a 2 count.  After some back and forth, TW slams Fang into the turnbuckles and goes for a pin but only gets a 1 count as the Ambassador put Fang’s foot on the bottom rope.  At the 15 minute mark, the Ambassador pushed the ref “by accident” but pleaded so he didn’t get Fang disqualified.  Wildfire hit a superplex but before he could capitalize on it, the Ambassador tripped him at the ropes.  TW smashes Fang’s head into the turnbuckle and the Ambassador pushed the ref again but Wildfire at the same time hit Fang with the Hangman’s Clothesline.  The ref ignored the Ambassador and counted (maybe a little quick as he was perturbed with the interfering manager) 1-2-3.  Texas Wildfire gets the win and the fans pop huge for him.  He leaves the ring and the Ambassador climbs in the ring to jaw jack with the ref accusing him of a fast count.  He pushes the ref who by now is fed up and pushes back sending the Ambassador on his butt.  Dr. Red Fang rushed back in to the aid of his manager and started to go after the ref but then Texas Wildfire was back in with a steel chair.  Fang backed down and he and the Ambassador left.  The ref thanked TW and Wildfire actually raised the arm of the ref.  The fans popped again.  They left the ring heading to the back.  (18 min for the match; 5 for the aftermath)

J9 is once again backstage with Talon McFrost.  Talon says he is destined for greatness and tonight, it comes at the hands of the Wicked Prophet.  J9 warns him not to underestimate the King or his crafty manager Dash “Pain in the Ass” Woodbrick.  Talon says he’s a veteran who’s seen everything.  Nothing Prophet can do will surprise him and if Dash sticks his nose in his (Talon’s) business, he will knock him on his ass.  Talon leaves.

We head back to the ring for our next match.  First, the Muscles come out but it’s only Thorpe and Weasley.  They are wearing their rainbow colored bull horns.  They act all goofy on stage and then head to the ring.  Once in the ring, they take off their attire and await their challengers.

2 members of the 6 Man Tag Team Champions Killa Pops and Maximillian Redbeard come out to a pop from the crowd.  They interact with some of the fans and then head to the ring.   The bell rings and this one is all the champs.  4 minutes in, Pops hits Thorpe with the Pimp Drop.  He goes for the cover but only gets a two count.  The Muscles then began to double team Pops who made the tag to Redbeard.  Redbeard hits the ring only to be double teamed himself.  After he deemed he’d had enough, Redbeard hits Thorpe with a big boot to the face that sends him to the floor.  Weasley went for some high flying move but Redbeard caught him and then HURLED him into the crowd from the ring.  HOLY SH!T changes rang out.  Needless to say, Weasley did not make it back in to the ring so he was counted out.  Pops and Redbeard get the win via count out (another one???).  They head to the back.  Thorpe gathers up his tag team partner and helps him to the back.  (12 min)

Our last J9 interview of the evening is with the World Champion and King the Wicked Prophet and his manager Dash ‘Smooooth’ Woodbrick (Dash wants more OOOO’s but I just don’t want to type them).  Dash tells J9 that he heard what name she called him earlier (J9 shrugs her shoulder like ‘Who Me?’).  Dash glares at her.  Prophet says that no one in HCW is worthy of fighting him.  Even every person who holds a title be it Scooter J, Rad Gumbo or that flannel wearing goof Jack Lumber…each and every one of them are unworthy.  Talon McFrost will serve as an example of what will happen to anyone who crosses him.  Prophet walks off and Dash follows.

It’s time for our Main Event.  First, Talon McFrost comes out to a small pop from the crowd.  He is all business and heads right for the ring.  He removes his jacked and paces in the ring.  The music then changed:

Dash comes out first and is pissed.  I think he’s gonna sue somebody.  The King and World Champion the Wicked Prophet comes out next.  Both are booed heavily except for one small part where Prophet’s ‘followers’ hang out.  The duo make their way to the ring.  Once in, Prophet removes his crown and cape and hands them, along with his scepter, to Dash.  Prophet does some light stretches and then the bell rings.

The Wicked Prophet wins the match and retains his title.  Dash gets into the ring and puts the title around Prophet’s waist.   The two celebrate in the ring until the flannel wearing lumberjack Jack Lumber comes out.  He and Prophet have a stare down as the show comes to an end.
