HCW Wrestling Newsletter 2019 #808 – Tacoma Thunder (11/10)

Hello fans and welcome back to another installment of the HCW Wrestling Newsletter.  We took a brief hiatus after the House of Horrors PPV to allow the talent from that event time to recover.  When questioned why we didn’t just run shows without them (we DO have a robust roster after all), all we were told is that the World/US Champion Wicked Prophet and the Ladies Champion Sassy Maxine DeVito said that they were both important enough that the show could wait for them. 

The show begins with some pyro and a recap from the PPV.  We see Violet Valkyrie and Hayley Hailstone begin a feud;  Maxine firing Catalina Harper and then Ms. Harper goes all bat-shit on her;  Wicked Prophet defeating Texas Wildfire to become a 2 belt champion (World and US); Jack Lumber’s easy win over the Axe; Killa Pops getting some revenge exacted against Apollo Gyze and finally, Master Bull getting the win and once again becoming the GM over the Phoenix brand.

The Omegatron lights up and the World/US champion the Wicked Prophet fills the screen.

“Did you hear the words? My prophecy manifested, and I am the World Champion. If I so choose, I can relinquish the US Title, as it seems such a minor stepping stone now but why not relish in the fact that I am a 2 belt champion? The fans of HCW will be blessed. More interesting events are about to take place, in the ring and in your souls. My ways are mysterious, and you will see the light. Glory to my fans, they are deserving. They have stuck with me through tribulation and this is their reward. The hearts of the children will turn to their father’s and more will be brought into the fold.”

We cut to the office of GM Max McGillicutty.  He says that Wicked Prophet will be defending the US title at the upcoming show in Phoenix against ‘the King of Cones’ Magnum Kone.  Max says that if Prophet is successful in retaining his title, he will be forced to relinquish it (no wrestler is allowed to hold two singles titles) and a tournament will be held to crown a new champion.  Max then issues a congratulations to Master Bull who once again is in charge of the Phoenix brand.  Max states that tonight, a new Anytime/Anywhere Champion will be crowned and the title will go back to being defended whenever someone wants a shot.  However, everyone who holds a title today including the six man and tag team champions will all be exempt from fighting for the title.  “May the best person win.”

Pyro goes off and our first match of the evening is ready to kick off.  First, Lavender Gooms makes her way out to a small pop from the crowd.  Once in the ring, the Omegatron lights up showing a hailstorm and out comes Hayley Hailstone.  The fans boo her after her turn and no longer back her after her attack on fan favorite Violet Valkyrie.  Hayley comes out with a mic and tells the fans to shut up so she can talk.  After a brief increase in volume, they ended up settling down.  She starts off.  “First of all, I am the greatest Ladies Champion period.  Belt or no belt…I am the best.  Maxine, keep that belt polished up as I will be getting it back but in the meantime…Violet, you cost me my title and for that, you’re going to pay dearly.  And I have the perfect person who will help me make that happen.”  She stands aside and out comes…’the Singapore Sensation’ Matt Preacher.  Hayley hands him the mic.  Preacher says he gave up on Singapore and has returned to the states to manage one of the greatest wrestlers in all the business.  Tonight, they show the world they mean business.  The duo head to the ring and the match begins when Hayley attacked Lavender.  Lavender got in one good shot but Hayley soon took over.  Lavender would get a near fall but Preacher pulled her off before the 3 count could be made.  It only took another couple of minutes for Hayley to hit the “What the Hail” and get the 1-2-3.  Hayley gets the win but her celebration is cut short when Violet Valkyrie runs out and chases her around the ring before chasing her to the back.  (20 min)

We then cut to a promo from the Masked Banana.  “MB has been troubled lately. I enjoy banana bread as much as the next person, and am confused why someone would think that making banana bread would be insulting. But I also understands that my precious “nannie” was used in the making of that banana bread, and that is a little upsetting. It would be more upsetting if someone made cat(nip) bread though.” (Editor’s note:  Umm…ewww.)

It’s time for the all person battle royal.  One by one, they began to file down to the ring.  Even though they were just out there, Violet, Lavender and Hayley all came out separately.  It took the crowd in between Hayley and Violet to keep the two separated.  The eliminations were quick as people were thrown out as fast as they entered the ring.  Before we knew it, we were down to the final four – El Chango, Violet Valkyrie, Texas Wildfire and Hayley Hailstone.  El Chango locked up with Wildfire and a snap powerslam by TW and a hurl over the top rope ended El Chango’s chance for the title.  Hayley and Violet finally locked up only for Matt Preacher to come down and pull down the top rope that caused Violet to go tumbling over the top to the floor – eliminated.  Violet then charged at Preacher catching him with a high knee that sent him over the ringside barrier and into the crowd.  Violet then ran over grabbing Hayley’s arm and pulled her over the top and to the floor eliminating her.  The two ladies continued to brawl and took it to the back.  With that elimination, Texas Wildfire wins the title.  The fans pop HUGE for him.  He holds the title high and is enjoying the cheers from the fans until out comes the combined World and US Champion the Wicked Prophet.  Prophet mockingly claps for him.  TW is distracted and doesn’t see Baron von Blood sneak up behind him and clobber him with some German forearms.  The Wicked Prophet also comes down.   Baron distracts the ref and Prophet climbs in and hits the Unrighteous Dominion before sliding out of the ring.  Baron returns and locks in the brain claw.  TW is out.  Baron make the cover and gets the win.  Baron von Blood has just become the Anytime/Anywhere Champion.  Wildfire took off after Prophet who bolted to the back.  Before Baron had any time to celebrate his win, out comes the flannel wearing lumberjack Jack Lumber who caught Baron with an elbow and a roll up that saw the title change hands again.  Jack Lumber gets the win and becomes the new Anytime/Anywhere Champion.  He takes off into the crowd.

Our next match is ready to go.  First, Ovaltine Jackson comes out to a pop from the crowd.  Once in the ring, the music changed and over the loudspeakers blared “Apollo Gyze don’t apologize” and out comes Apollo who is booed heavily.  He sneers at the fans as he makes his way down.  To prove to the fans he means business, he attacked Ovaltine when the bell rang.  Apollo dominated the match but when he would attempt a pin, he’d wait till the 2 count and then pull Ovaltine up by his hair.  The fans kept booing but he didn’t’ care.  Apollo looked like he had things wrapped up after he triple powerbombed Ovaltine to the mat but instead of going for a pin, he hammed it up for the crowd.  This gave Ovaltine the precious seconds he needed to recover and hit Apollo with a Director’s Cut Powerslam.  He made the cover hooking the leg tightly and got the 3.  Ovaltine gets the win and rolls out of the ring to avoid being on the receiving end of Apollo’s frustrations.  Apollo kicks the ropes a few times and then leaves.  (14 min)

Backstage, the Smashers are talking crap about the Steel Curtain when Buzz and Starbuck walk in.  Buzz tells Smasher #1 to repeat what he said and this time to his face.  Things began to get a little heated between the two teams and Starbuck suggested they take this to the ring.  The Smashers said that if they were going to do that, why not put the tag titles on the line.  The Curtain agreed.  The Smashers walked away.  Looks like we have our main event.

Backstage, Jack Lumber is walking around with his new title when a bunch of wrestlers started to chase him.  Jack rushed out the door and saw someone motioning him to his car.  It’s the Masked Banana.  Jack jumps in and locks the door.  Wrestlers swarm the car.  The Masked Banana tells him that when Lumber needs him, he will always come to his aid.  He then says that they should form a team.  Jack asks what it should be called.  MB thinks for a moment and then says they will be the Flannelnanas. Jack tells him to drive and they drive off.

We go back to the ring for the next match.  First, a powder keg shows up on the Omegatron and then explodes.  Bob ‘Powder’ Keg makes his way out to booing from the crowd.  He gets into the ring and continues to jaw jack with the fans.  Next, the music changes and out comes Maximillian Redbeard.  The fans pop for him and he makes his way to the ring, squat jumps onto the apron and then steps over the top rope.  Bob tries to go after him but ends up eating a big boot from Redbeard.  The bell then rings starting this one off.  For 9 minutes, Bob controlled the pace of the match until Maximillian stunned him with a flying knee smash.  He followed it up with a powerslam.  Bob came back with an exploder smash and a powerbomb but a knoggin smash from Maximillian put Bob flat on the mat.  Redbeard went for the pin and got the 1-2-3.  Redbeard gets the win and the fans pop huge for him.  He celebrates briefly before heading to the back. (12 min)

A frustrated Apollo Gyze is walking out to his car.  He gets in and only gets a few feet before a tire blows.  He gets out of the car and opens the trunk to get the jack out but half of it is missing.  Apollo begins to curse up a storm until a car pulls up.  Out comes Killa Pops.  Killa doesn’t say anything but hands him the jack from his car.  Apollo looks at him and says “I ain’t gonna apologize” and Killa just looks at him and replies “You wouldn’t be you if you did”.  Killa then leaves.  Apollo watches him drive off and then goes back to working on the tire.

It’s time for the main event.  First, the Smashers come out to massive boos from the crowd.  They get in the ring and flex their muscles taunting the fans.  The music changes and out comes the World Tag Team Champions the Steel Curtain.  The fans pop huge as Buzz and Starbuck Steel make their way down to the ring.  They get in and each climb a turnbuckle holding their titles high.  The fans continue to pop and that only frustrated the Smashers who were pacing in the ring. Finally, things were ready to get started.  The champs handed their titles to the ref who then nodded for the match to begin.  The Smashers started the double teaming early but about 7 minutes in, the champs began making a comeback.  For two minutes, the Curtain double teamed Smasher #1.  Starbuck then caught him with a shooting star buck and went for a pin only for Smasher #1 to kick out at 2.  Starbuck tagged Buzz in but Smasher #1 made the tag also to his partner.   Buzz hits a swinging neckbreaker followed by a reverse neckbreaker.  He made the cover hooking the leg and got the 1-2-3. The Steel Curtain are victorious and retain their titles.  The Smashers leave allowing the champs to stay and interact with the fans as the show comes to an end.

HCW Wrestling Newsletter 2019 #807 – (10/30) – House of Horrors PPV – Phoenix, AZ

Hello fans and welcome to our October PPV event – House of Horrors – live from Phoenix, Arizona.  The sold out crowd are packed in like sardines and are figuratively hanging from the rafters.  Today’s PPV theme is that the gloves are off and anything goes.  Every person (or vampire in Dr. Red Fang’s case) are pulling out all the stops and with each match getting a whopping 30 minutes to tell their story, we are sure to have definitive winners.

Pyro goes off and GM Ruth Heartless comes out.  The fans boo her and she looks on them in disgust.  She tells us that every match will be no disqualification and each and every confrontation will have a clear cut winner.   Ruth looks to the audience and sees signs that say “Avenge Nannie” and she looks at them and says “Do you idiots realize that he isn’t even here?”  She gets a bit flustered and then shakes it off.  The fans begin a chant “Start the show” and she finally gets fed up and storms off the stage much to the delight of the fans.  Pyro goes off again and that’s our signal for our event to begin.

Some stage hands rush down to the ring and begin setting up a wooden construct around the ring.  This construct just so happens to be wrapped in barb wire.  That must mean our first match is El Chango vs Col. Flagg.  A video airs showing the history between the two.  Tonight, their feud comes to an end – probably with one of them ending up in the hospital.  First, we hear “Stand up and shut up you maggots” and out comes Col. Flagg.  Flagg is chomping on a stogie.  The fans boo mercilessly and he saunters down to the ring.  He gets in and the fans continue to boo and he berates them in return.  The music changes and the fans pop as El Chango makes his way out.  He interacts with the fans as he makes his way to the terrifying structure.  Col. Flagg grabs a 2x4 wrapped in barb wire and threatens to hit El Chango with it.  The ref takes it away and calls for the start of the match.  El Chango begins by whipping Flagg into the barb wire.  Flagg pries himself off of it only to get taken off his feet by a shooting star press.  El Chango goes for the pin but only gets a 1 count.  After some back and forth, El Chango eye rakes Flagg with the barb wire and the blood begins to flow.  He goes for the pin but Flagg kicks out at 2.  El Chango hits the Diamond Dust and goes for the pin again but Flagg gets his foot on the bottom rope.  After a little more back and forth, El Chango hits the Diamond Dust but isn’t satisfied.  He picks Flagg up again and hits a second Diamond Dust.  He makes the cover and gets the 3 count.  El Chango gets the win and the fans pop huge for him.  Flagg is bleeding pretty back and medics are out almost immediately and they take him to the back.  El Chango stays and celebrates with the fans as the cage is removed and the blood is cleaned up.  (9 min)

Backstage, Nix Anderson is smirking.  He tells Clarkus Kentus that he will become the Hardcore Champion tonight or he’s out of a job.  He doesn’t fancy being on the unemployment line so becoming the champion is the only option.   Tonight, Dr. Red Fang gets the ukulele treatment.  He strums it as he walks off.

Larry Morton is backstage with the Hardcore Champion Dr. Red Fang and his manager the Ambassador.  The Ambassador states that Nix’s time in HCW is about to come to a close and they will shed a tear…NOT.  Fang cackles and the Ambassador calls anyone who remotely thinks Anderson will be around after tonight is a misguided nincompoop.  Dr. Red Fang retains and there is nothing Anderson can do about it.

We head to the ring as our next match is ready to begin.  First, Nix Anderson comes out to a mixture of cheers and boos.  He is strumming the ukulele and saunters down to the ring.  He climbs in and shows off for the fans.  He is rudely interrupted by “VAMPIRE LUNGES FOR EVERYBODY” and out comes the diabolical Hardcore Champion Dr. Red Fang and his manager the Ambassador.  The Ambassador is not allowed at ringside so he remains behind and Fang makes his way to the ring.  The referee announces that the rules for tonight’s event are “Lights out” (basically, one person can’t answer a 10 count).  The battle begins and Nix totally dominates the champion.  Fang has trouble just keeping up.  20 minutes into their match and Nix blasted Fang with the ukulele.  He took his time going for a pin only for Fang to kick out at the very last second.  Nix keeps up the pressure and hits the Nixinator.   He goes for a pin but Fang kicks out.  Both men then hit the ropes and then clobber each other with a haymaker.  Both men go down.  The ref begins to count 1…2…3…4…5…Fang gets to his feet.  Just then, the Ambassador sneaks down and handcuffs Nix to the bottom rope.  Uh, oh, he can’t get to his feet.  6…7…8…9…10.  Nix is counted down and out.  Dr. Red Fang gets the win and now Nix Anderson is out of HCW.  The fans are actually shocked that this was allowed.   Nix can’t believe it either.  Fang takes his title and heads to the back.  He joins his manager on the ramp and they laugh and make their way to the back.  Nix gets on the mic and thanks the Phoenix fans and then leaves.  He makes his way up the ramp, turns once to salute the fans and then leaves. 

We head backstage and Apollo Gyze is pacing.  He claims that Killa Pops has taken things too far and it takes a match as vicious as the Lybian Death Match to bring closure to this…and the end of Pops.  Apollo says he’s not going to apologize for beating the living tar out of Pops but it’s finally over.

Larry Morton is with Killa Pops and Pops says that Apollo is, as always, delusional.  The man with the plan is going to be walking out victorious.  Larry asks “Is Captain America going to be here?” (If you remember from ‘The First Avenger’ Cap was ‘the’ man with a plan.)  Killa shakes his head and walks off.  Suddenly he begins laughing hysterically.

We head back to the ring for our next match.  The loudspeakers blare with “APOLLO GYZE DON’T APOLOGIZE” and the unapologetic crazy man Apollo Gyze comes out to massive booing from the crowd.  He yells back at them and enters the ring to continue his verbal assault on the crowd.  The music changes and out comes Killa Pops.   Pops gets a huge reaction from the crowd.  He interacts with them as he makes his way down to the ring.  As soon as Killa enters the ring, Apollo goes right after him and the bell rings immediately.

Killa Pops gets the win and the fans pop huge for him.  He is finally vindicated.  Apollo slinks to the back.  Apollo hangs out with the fans for a few minutes before heading to the back.

Backstage, the Axe is with Clarkus Kentus and he is steaming.  He says that he’s been getting odd messages from that “freak” Jack Lumber and says tonight, he’s chopping him to pieces and burying him where no one will ever think to look for him.  Clarkus looks at Axe with a concerned look on his face.

We hear TIMBERRR over the loud speakers and the audience is asked to direct their attention to the big screen. We see a cartoon version of The Axe prancing through a forest with a goofy smile on his face when suddenly a tree falls down right in front of him. He turns to see a cartoon version of Jack Lumber who swings his axe up on his shoulder and says, “This forest only has room for one axe and its obvious which one is up to the task.”

The video cuts off and we hear music as Jack Lumber comes out of the tunnel to a customized version of Kanye West’s “Jesus Walks”

Forest show me the way because “The Axe” is tryna break me down

The only thing I pray is that my axe don’t fail me now

And I don’t think there’s nothing he can do now to right his wrongs

I wanna talk to “The Axe” one more time just to tell him so long….

When Lumber gets in the ring he grabs the mic and says that The Axe may have gotten the best of him in the steel cage match, but he took the next few weeks of recovery as an opportunity to live in the forest, connect with his trees for strength, and meditate. He has planted many trees to gather the strength necessary to retire The Axe for good. He then says that he will plant a Cottonwood tree in the Axe’s memory because it is one of the worst trees to exist. While the cottonwood may look good, their wood is brittle like The Axe’s nerves. Cottonwoods are also susceptible to wind damage, just as The Axe has been susceptible to the winds of change. Lastly the tree produces fluffy, cottony seeds that pile up on everything and make a huge mess. These cottony seeds represent how soft The Axe has become and huge mess he has made of his life. Jack doesn’t expect the tree to last much longer than The Axe lasted in Tacoma Thunder. Jack then drops the mic, rips the sleeves off his flannel, and laces up his Timberland boots to kick some Axe (pun intended).

The fans continue to pop for Jack until the music changes and out comes the Axe.  The fans quickly turn on him and the booing echoes throughout the building.  The Axe ignores it all and makes his way into the ring.  He immediately gets into Jack’s face and then shoves him to the ground.  The ref tells us that the rules for this match are “ECW rules” and anything (including the kitchen sink) goes.

Jack Lumber rolled DC

The Axe executes a MULTIPLE ELBOW SHOTS. (Jack is busted open and is wearing a crimson mask)...

Jack Lumber attempts to defend against MULTIPLE ELBOW SHOTS but is unsuccessful.

The Axe rolled OC.

Jack Lumber rolled OC.

The Axe executes a Golf Clubs to gonads AND THE AXE (Axe is surprised as there is no reaction  Lumber is wearing protection)....

Jack Lumber executes a YUKON BODYSLAM....

===== In the 3rd minute of the match: =====

The Axe rolled OC.

Jack Lumber rolled OC.

The Axe executes a BACKBREAKER....

Jack Lumber hurls Axe out of the ring.  He then rams Axe into the steel post busting him open.  He drops him face first on the steel steps and rolls Axe back in.  He follows and waits for the Axe to get to his feet and then executes THE AXE....

Jack Lumber is attempting a pin!!!

The Axe was pinned by Jack Lumber!!!

Jack Lumber wins with a THE AXE over The Axe!!!

HOLY COW!  Jack gets the quick win over the Axe and just like that, the Axe is out of HCW.  He acts like he’s going to attack Lumber again but turns and leaves.  Jack Lumber celebrates with the fans and then decides to go hang out in the Lumber Lounge to clean himself up.

A video airs up on the Omegatron from the US Champion the Wicked Prophet:

Each of the ladies in our next match all refused to say anything on camera.  They were all focused and prepared for this match.

Davis Hoffmeister is backstage and asks where he can go get set up.  GM Ruth Heartless meets him and shows him a door.  Davis enters and notices it’s an exit to the outside.  Ruth slams the door behind him locking him out.

The Tables, Ladders & Chairs Fatal Four Way for the Ladies title is up next and one by one, they each made their way out.  Catalina Harper came out first, followed by Maxine DeVito.  There was a brief lull as the stage filled with smoke and then Violet Valkyrie came zipping through on her zipline that took her down to the ring.  The fans popped for her as she lowered herself to the outside of the ring all the while keeping an eye on Maxine and Catalina.  Finally, the music changed and out comes the Ladies Champion Hayley Hailstone.  She also gets a pop as she makes her way down to the ring.  She is all business.  Catalina and Maxine leave the ring to set up tables and grab some chairs and ladders for easy access.  The ref informs us that this match will have a 60 minute time limit.

Hayley Hailstone and Violet Valkyrie fight all the way to the back.

Sassy Maxine DeVito takes the Ladies Title and then grabs her Anytime Anywhere title and holds them both high. The fans boo.  Catalina makes her way to her feet and to the corner.  Maxine asks her to get a mic.  Maxine calls herself the greatest Ladies Champion and the first to hold these two titles simultaneously.  She then says that Catalina claims to have had her back all this time but in reality, she was only looking out for herself.  Catalina has a confused, hurt look on her face.  Maxine says that she has never had he back and says that in front of all these stupid fans, she is firing Catalina.  Maxine then states that she is dropping the Anytime/Anywhere title and she will only be the Ladies Champion.  She prances around the ring holding her title high.  The rage boils up in Catalina and she attacks Maxine.  The two fight out of the ring and then to the back.  The camera then pans back to the ring zooming in on the now-vacated Anytime Anywhere title before going to black.

In the back, Hayley and Violet continue their brawl until enough backstage hands got in to separate the two.  Hayley yells that Violet cost her the title and says she will take it out on Violet’s hide.  Violet tells her to “bring it” and the two resume their brawl.  I think their feud is just beginning.

We cut back to the office of the GM.  Ruth Heartless is with Tacoma GM Max McGillicutty.  Max says that since Maxine just relinquished the AA title, they will hold a new battle royal in Tacoma to crown a new champion.  Ruth questions why they can’t just do it tonight.  Max reminds her that there are still TWO Hell in a Cell matches and that the AA title can be decided later. 

The Hell in a Cell is finally lowered and secured into place.  The first of our final two matches of the evening will be the Banker vs Master Bull.  If Master Bull wins, he becomes the GM of Phoenix once again.  Pyro goes off once again and Master Bull comes out first to a pop from his town’s crowd.  He makes his way out and then enters the Cell.  Once there, the music changes and out comes the Banker.  The Banker is accompanied by GM Ruth Heartless.  The two make their way down to the structure and confer before the Banker enters. 

There is a commotion in the crowd and Davis Hoffmeister makes his way in.  The fans pop.  Davis gets to the ring and takes a mic.  He says that Ruth tried to lock him out of the building but he’s a spry little guy and figured out Ruth’s plan.  Davis says the odds are now even and nods to Master Bull.  The match then begins.  The two begin brawling all over the place and for the most part, the Banker controlled the pace of the match.  At the 10 minute mark, both men began scaling the cage.  The Banker bounced Master Bull’s head off the cage busting him open.  He almost fell but held on to the Banker’s leg and they both tumbled to the floor.  The Banker landed awkwardly.  Bull puts his hand to his face and sees the blood.

Master Bull gets the win and once again, he is the GM for Phoenix Heat.   The fans pop huge as with Bull’s win ends the tyranny of Ruth Heartless’ reign as GM.  Ruth helps the Banker to the back.  Master Bull shakes hands with Davis who then leaves allowing Bull to celebrate in his win.

We go to the back where we are with World Champion Texas Wildfire.  TW says he’s already been through hell with the insane schedule that a World Champion has to go through and he wouldn’t trade it for anything.  Tonight, one man walks away with two titles.  Wildfire says he’s ready and hopes the Wicked Prophet is at 100% as there can be no excuses.

It is time for our main event.  First, the US Champion the Wicked Prophet comes out to boos from the crowd.  He makes his way down and enters the Hell in a Cell.  The music changes and out comes the World Champion Texas Wildfire.  The fans pop huge for him and he makes his way out.  He high-fives with the fans as he closes in on the structure.  He enters and Prophet is waiting.  The bell rings and our final match is ready to go.
