HCW Wrestling Newsletter 2019 #791 – Tacoma Thunder (8/25)

Hello fans and welcome back to another installment of HCW’s Tacoma Thunder.  We are one short week away from the PPV “Reign of Champions” where every HCW title will be on the line.  We cut to the office of GM Max McGillicutty.   “Welcome fans from Tacoma and from around the world.  Our PPV is shaping up to be pretty spectacular.  Phoenix GM Ruth Heartless announced that Rad Gumbo vs the Iron Sheik will share co-main event status with Ladies Champion Violet Valkyrie taking on Hayley Hailstone.   The card is full with 8 matches taking place and since there is still a lot going on, we’ve secured, in Olympia, WA, a location where we can host a show the night before.  I am proud to announce that on Saturday 8/31, we will be hosting “Saturday Night Showdown”.”  The fans pop.  “We want to ensure that everyone gets a fair shake and this is our way to make that happen.   Also tonight, we are having a tag team battle royal.  The last two members standing will have their teams face off in a match tonight with the winning team receiving a contract for a shot at the World Tag Team titles.  With that, let’s head to the ring to get this action kicked off.”

Pyro goes off and our match is ready to go.  Music hits and the Axe makes his way down to the ring ignoring the fans.  He gets in the ring and complains about not getting the title match he deserves and questions why some ignoramus such as Apollo Gyze gets one.  Axe then calls out Apollo challenging him for his title shot at the PPV.  There is a brief pause before we hear “APOLLO GYZE DON’T APOLOGIZE” and out comes Apollo.  He is booed pretty heavily and he saunters down to the ring.  Apollo gets on the mic and says he doesn’t have to accept anything but the ref tells him “Actually, you do” and a shocked Apollo is now officially in a match.   Apollo got in one good shot before Axe began unloading on him with punches and uppercuts.  At the 5 minute mark, Apollo hit a gorilla press drop moonsault and went for the pin but Axe powered out of it.  Axe went for some elbow shots but Apollo nullified them.  Axe then hit a belly to belly suplex and then Jack Lumber appeared at ringside. The distraction allowed Apollo to hit a dropkick that sent Axe out of the ring.  Lumber, instead of confronting the Axe, crawled into the ring and SLUG Apollo.  The ref immediately rang the bell disqualifying the Axe for outside interference.  Apollo leaves the ring followed by Jack.  The Axe complained of Jack’s interference but the ref wouldn’t hear of it.  Axe storms to the back.  (6 ½ min)

It is time for our Tag Team Battle Royal.  There are two teams who are exempt from this and they are the World Tag Team Champions Mean Jack Mason and Angry Jack Lawson and their PPV opponents Maximillian Redbeard and Superquake Ferguson.  The teams all file out one by one and begin to fill the ring.   One by one the teams started to get eliminated until the final 4 in the ring were Smasher #2, Buzz Steel, Starbuck Steel and Regulator Mule. Mule and Starbuck fought but it was a Regulator roundhouse that sent Starbuck over the top to the floor below eliminating him. Now, it’s down to 3 teams.  Mule went after Buzz Steel trying to eliminate him but Buzz hit two consecutive German Suplexes and then hurled Mule over the top rope.  The bell rings bringing the battle royal to an end.  In the main event tonight, the Smashers will take on the Steel Curtain to see who receives the next title shot at the Tag team champions.  (45 min)

Backstage, Killa Pops says he wants to be on the Saturday Night Showdown and says that since the Smashers may very well be preoccupied, he’d be happy to take on Tommy Lightning…he stops and bursts out laughing.  “Ok, no seriously”…laughing.  Pops walks off just laughing uncontrollably.

We head back to the ring for our next match.  First, Sarona Reiher comes out and heads to the ring.  She says that GM Ruth Heartless is giving her an opportunity to shine and therefore she is calling out the one person ranked higher than her in the Ladies Top 10…‘Sassy’ Maxine DeVito.  Maxine comes out and accepts the match.  She heads to the ring.  Even though she had a great showing up against Kimberly Kiccsass at the last Phoenix show, Maxine just outwrestled her.  Maxine took her time and was methodical in the moves she hit.  At the 27 minute mark, Sarona hit a superfly splash but it took too much out of her and she was unable to make the cover.  Maxine got to her feet and grabbed a handful of hair and and flip/slammed Sarona to the mat.  She immediately went for the pin and hooked the leg (and put her feet on the ropes) and got the 1-2-3.  Maxine gets the win and retains her spot in the top 10.  This brought out Kimberly Kiccsass who was still pissed at dropping out of the top 10 completely.  She challenges Maxine for her spot and wants it at the Showdown.  Maxine takes a mic and accepts.  (28 min)

We go back to Max’s office.  He says he’s going to address the challenge made by Wicked Prophet.  Max says that HCW typically does not do belt vs belt matches but thinks that this may be as good as a time as any.  He needs to work out the details but since they don’t want one person being bogged down by having to defend 2 singles titles, when the match happens and a winner is determined, they will allow that new champion to defend the titles one time.  After that, if he still holds both, the US title will be held up and a new tournament will be held to crown a new champion.

We go back to the ring for our main event:  The Steel Curtain vs the Smashers to see who receives the contract for a future match.  First, the Smashers come out to booing from the crowd.   They power walk down to the ring and enter.  They mock and yell at the fans getting them whipped into a frenzy.  The music changes and out comes the Steel Curtain.  Buzz and Starbuck Steel come through the curtains to the loudest pop of the night.  They high fives the fans and make their way to the ring.  They enter and after removing their jackets, are ready for action.  The Smashers got in some good shots early but then the experience of the Steel Curtain took over and they controlled the pace of the match.  The Smashers tried to use their power to overwhelm their challengers but the Curtain persevered.  We join the match at the 19 minute mark.
