HCW Wrestling Newsletter 2019 #743 – Tacoma Thunder (01/27)

Hello fans and welcome to another installment of HCW’s Tacoma Thunder.  The show begins today backstage in the office of GM Max McGillicutty.  Standing with him is ‘the Elitist’ Reid Rothchild.  Max questions Reid about the ‘injury’ and then the cell phone footage of Reid playing golf.  Reid shrugs it off.  They watch a recap of the promo Apollo Gyze cut on Reid and Reid gets a little pissed off.  Hardcore Champion Apollo Gyze then walks into the office.  “Hey, that was great, wasn’t it?”  Reid challenges Apollo to a match tonight for the Hardcore title.  Apollo says that if his wrestling is as crappy as his golf game, it will be a breeze and then walks off.  Reid stands there seething.

Pyro goes off and our first match is ready to get underway.  First, ‘Big Money’ Ned Rhyerson III comes out and he is booed pretty heavily.  He responds in kind to the fans which just makes things worse.  Once in the ring, the music changed and out comes Adam Jameson.  AJ hasn’t seen a lot of airtime as of late so it’s good to see him in action.  Rhyerson tries to attack before the bell and AJ levels him with a Pele kick.  Finally, the match gets underway and AJ controls the whole thing from start to finish.  Ned maybe got in 4 or 5 moves but that was it.  At the 10 minute mark, Adam hits a reverse STF and is able to easily get the 1-2-3.  Adam Jameson gets the (he made it look easy) win.

Backstage, Ladies Champion Ruby Rose is sitting in the corner enjoying her Starbucks coffee and happy there are no shenanigans going on.  She is then approached by the British Crippler who makes fun of her saying she’s had one too many lattes.  Ruby says she’s not afraid of the Crippler.  BC challenges Ruby to a match for the title.  Ruby says she wasn’t born yesterday either.  If she wants a match, she can have a non-title one and can prove, if she can, that she is worthy of a title shot.  The two women stared at each other before the Crippler walked away.  Ruby sat down and went back to drinking her drink.  She muttered “Damn shenanigans”.

We head back to the ring to decide the #1 contender and the man will meet World Champion Texas Wildfire at the PPV.  First, Starbuck Steel comes out and the fans pop huge for him.  He high-fives the fans as he makes his way to the ring, enters and climbs the turnbuckles to louder and louder pops from the fans.  Everything goes sour when the music changes and out comes the Banker with his manager Ruth Heartless.  Ruth has been ruthless in getting the Banker moved up the rankings and getting the Banker to the big game is her goal.  He makes his way into the ring and Ruth follows him in raising his arm in victory before he’s even won anything.  Ruth got involved early and often and the match definitely went the way of her guy.  When Starbuck began making a comeback, he almost scored a win after rolling the Banker up with a small package (ok, he was hooking the tights) but the sudden appearance from Tommy Lightning who came through the crowd distracted the ref so he did not make the 3 count.  Starbuck began arguing with Tommy and that gave the Banker just enough to connect with the Repossession Rib-buster.  He went for the cover blocking the ref’s view from the outside of the ring.  Tommy snuck over and held Starbuck’s foot down so he could not kick out.  The ref counted to 3 and awarded the match and the shot at the PPV to the Banker.  The Banker and Ruth were elated but the fans felt just the opposite.  Starbuck rolled out of the ring and ended up chasing Tommy to the back.  The Banker stayed and gloated for a few moments before leaving. (15 min)

Shawn ‘Abs of Stone’ Austin is in the back admiring himself in a mirror when he hears a commotion outside his dressing room.  Annoyed, he goes to see what it is and as soon as he opens the door, Maximillian Redbeard is standing right there.  Redbeard immediately attacks and the two fight all over the dressing room destroying it.  Redbeard picked up Austin and powerslammed him through a table.  He then picked Austin up, threw him over his shoulder and began to walk to the ring.

Music hits as Maximillian Redbeard comes out with the prone form of Shawn Austin slung over his shoulder.  He gets to the ring and rolls Austin in.  He begins to climb in calling for the bell.  Before Redbeard could get through the ropes, Austin, who must have been playing possum, jumped up and kicked the second rope which ‘stunned’ Redbeard and he fell into the ring.  The bell had not yet rung so Austin got out of the ring, grabbed a steel chair and climbed back in.  Austin hit Redbeard once across the back before the ref was able to wrestle it away from him.  He then called for the bell.  Austin controlled the first few minutes of the match but then Redbeard took over.  Maximillian didn’t try for a pin or submission as he just wanted to hurt Austin…and that he did…for a full 20 minutes.  The bell rang bringing this one to a draw finish and Austin managed to get out of the ring.  The chair he had used before the match was still sitting there.  Maximillian wasn’t done yet and in his rage, he got to close as Austin blasted him in the head again busting him open.  Seeing the blood just enraged Redbeard all the more.  Austin once again took off and left the building.  This one is not over…not by a longshot.  (DRAW)

Backstage, Ruby runs into Violet Valkyrie.  Violet asks Ruby if she saw her last match where she won in less than a minute.  Ruby says it was impressive.  Violet asks for the next title shot saying she’s deserving.  Ruby says “Well, I wouldn’t go that far.  You still have much to learn young padawan.” Violet looks at her.  “This isn’t Star Wars, this is wrestling.  Sooner, not later, you will have to give me that match.  Violet walked off.  Ruby didn’t seem to care.

We head to the ring for some tag team action.  First, the team of the Axe and Superstar Chic Monroe come out to a pop from the crowd.  Both interact with the fans before entering the ring.  Next, the music changes and out comes the Smashers (minus MJ).  The Smashers felt that MJ was holding them back keeping them from the titles so they parted ways.  Axe and Chic were in control for the first 4 minutes of the match but then the Smashers began targeting the Axe with multiple double teams.  The two teams continued to fight on until the Smashers used a double powerbomb to put the Axe through a ringside table.  Chic was on his own.  The Smashers keep the heat on but Chic wouldn’t quit.  Finally, at the 23 minute mark, Smasher #1 lands a weak DDT but Chic hits a Cradle Facebuster.  Smasher #1 tags out to #2.  After hitting #2 with a tackle, Chic goes to the top rope and connects with a flying headbutt.  #1 wasn’t paying attention and Chic was able to get the 3 count.  Axe and Superstar Chic Monroe get the win and continue to move up the rankings.  The Smashers were not happy but eventually left.  Chic helped the Axe to the back.  (24 min)

‘The Elitist’ Reid Rothchild is backstage and says that someone keeps calling his phone.  He doesn’t know the number so he’s not answering.  Reid says that he regrets taking out Drew the Canadian Love Machine because that was his last real challenge.  If Drew never returns, then so be it.

Once more, we make our way to the ring for a non-title match up.  First, the British Crippler makes her way out to booing from the crowd.  As soon as she hit the ring, the music changed and out comes the Ladies Champion Ruby Rose.  Ruby is all business and makes her way to the ring.  She gets in and immediately stands toe to toe with the British Crippler.  The match begins and the Ladies Champ takes the fight immediately to her opponent however, the Crippler used strategy and paced herself so the longer the match went on, she had not overworked herself.  17 minutes in, the Crippler locked in a rear naked choke but Ruby was able to get to the ropes.  She tried to follow it up with the Nattie by Nature but Ruby was able to nullify it.  The Crippler bodyslammed Ruby and then motioned for her to get up.  Ruby though went for an inverted DDT but it got reversed and the British Crippler went for the rear naked choke again but Ruby reversed that and locked in a modified Boston Crab.  The Crippler made it to the ropes just as the bell rang bringing this one to a draw finish.  The British Crippler rolled out of the ring and made her way to the back.  Apparently she had enough.  Ruby stayed and celebrated with the fans for a few minutes before leaving.  (20 min draw)

Backstage, the Banker meets up with World Champion Texas Wildfire.  The Banker tells TW that he is here to collect…the title.  He says that since TW has not kept up with the obligations of being a champion, he is going to repossess the title.  He makes a grab for it and TW socks him in the nose.  “I saw what you did in that match against Starbuck Steel.  You will NOT do that to me.  You want this title, earn it the RIGHT way.” TW walks away.  The Banker is standing there holding his nose.

It’s time for our main event.  First, ‘the Elitist’ Reid Rothchild comes out first to boos from the crowd.  After he’d been in the ring for a moment, we hear “APOLLO GYZE DON’T APOLOGIZE” and the Hardcore Champion Apollo Gyze makes his way out.  The reception he gets from the fans is even worse that Reid’s.   Apollo has a mic in hand and tells the crowd that they wouldn’t recognize a 5 star caliber athlete such as himself.  This got the fans worked up even more.  After Apollo finally got to the ring, the ref asked him what type of rules match he wanted.  Apollo thought about it for a moment and said “Lybian Death Match”.  Well, Ok.  The two beat the holy hell out of each other for a solid 18 minutes.  This is where we join the match.

HOWEVER…

Just as the cameras stopped rolling, a video appeared up on the Omegatron.

*******************************************************************************

The scene takes place on a dark corner with a single street light illuminating the spot.  A guy wearing all black is standing there.  Another person walks up to him stealthily staying in the shadows and scares the guy.

“Man, you scared me.”

The second guy replies “APOLLO GYZE DON’T APOLOGIZE”

“So, this beef with Master Bull…do you want me to rub him out?”

Second guy:  “Nah.  He seems to have it in for me so I want to hit him where it hurts.  I want to see him out of a job.”

“So you want me to find some dirt on the guy?  The last dirt (Master Bull had skimmed money from the gate to cover his strip club habit) has been cleared up and he’s pretty squeaky clean now”

The second guy says “There has to be something.  See what you can do”

“Ok”.  The guy in black walks off.

The second guy turns, still in the shadows and looks (at the reader) and says “You got that?”

To be continued….
