HCW Wrestling Newsletter 2020 #855

Hello fans and welcome back to another installment of the HCW Wrestling Newsletter.  With Master Bull relinquishing his co-GM spot to prepare for his battle with Dash Woodbrick, that left an opening and one person was not going to let the opportunity slip by.  The show begins back in the office of GM Max McGillicutty.  He is approached by none other than ‘Sassy’ Maxine DeVito.  Maxine says that with Bull gone, (Max corrects her stating he’s on temporary leave), that means someone needs to be helping Max run the whole f’n show.   Max immediately becomes suspicious.  “You get booted out of the running for the ladies title and now you want to help me run the show?  Somehow, I don’t think you could be un-biased.”  Maxine shakes her head.  “You have it all wrong.  I am not biased at all.  In fact, I think I could do a better job than Master Bull himself.  All I need is a chance to prove myself.”  Max sits back.  “Ok, I will let you recommend what you think tonight’s card should look like and I’ll see how it looks.”  Maxine begins her prep.

“So, first, I think J9 needs to get some air time so she should be in the opening match against Felicia Cummings.  Next, we need the Anytime/Anywhere title defended so current champion Davis Hoffmeister should take on former champ Phat Sol.  Third, Master Bull stated he needs to get warmed up.  How about a match with one half of the Tag Team Champs TNT?  Fourth…who doesn’t want to see fan favorites face off?  So how about Drew the Canadian Love Machine taking on Starbuck Steel with the winner getting a shot at the TV title at the PPV?  We need some tag team action so what about the Smashers taking on 2 members of the Snake Pit?  Lastly, our illustrious Ladies Champion Korbi Kong will take on the Samoan Sarona Reiher.  How is that for a lineup?”

Max is impressed.  “You know, you do seem to have a knack for this so here’s what we’ll do.  I will run with your suggestions.  If the show is a success, we will talk further.”  Maxine smiles and says “It’s all I can ask.”  She turns to leave and then an evil grin crosses her face.  Uh oh!

Our first match kicks off with Felicia Cummings and her twin Betsy.  The duo are booed as they head to the ring.  Once at the ring, the ref tried to send Betsy from the ring but she went to sit at commentary so he allowed her to stay.  Next, J9’s music hit and she comes out to a pop from the crowd.  She makes her way into the ring and Felicia attacks her starting off the match.  Betsy distracted the ref a few times allowing Felicia to get in some cheap shots.  J9 began battling back and at the 13 minute mark, she hit a DDT on Felicia but she was interrupted when Maxine DeVito came out.  She was questioning why Maxine was distracting everyone.  Maxine made her way to the ring and the ref stopped her from coming closer.  That allowed Felicia and Betsy to do the ol’ switcheroo.  When J9 turned around, Betsy/Felicia hit an illegal rollup (with a handful of tights) to get the 1-2-3.  Betsy rolled out of the ring and Felicia rolled back in.  Felicia gets her arm raised as the victor while J9 tried to complain to the ref.  Betsy and Felicia left to go to the back.  Maxine smirked and then made her own way back.  J9 eventually followed.  (14 min)

Backstage, The Masked Banana shows up and tries to dance with Maxine.  She gets a disgusted look on her face and walks away.

Next up, one half of the Tag Team Champions TNT makes his way out to booing from the fans.  As he walks to the ring, he holds up the tag team title in their faces as he passes by.  He gets in the ring and continues to showboat.  The music changes and out comes Master Bull to a nice pop from the crowd.  He interacts with a few fans and makes his way to the ring.  He enters the ring only to be ambushed by TNT.  Master Bull held his own against TNT and the match was a lot closer than you think.  We expected the tide to change when Dash Woodbrick made his way out attempting to cause a distraction.  Then Drew the Canadian Love Machine and Anytime/Anywhere Champion Davis Hoffmeister came out to distract TNT (but unlike Dash, they didn’t try to get involved in the match).  At the 17 minute mark, TNT left the ring to grab a chair but Dash talked him out of using it.  TNT entered the ring again.  Dash took the chair and as TNT distracted the ref, Dash hit Master Bull with it.  However, he was not as sly as he thought he was and the ref saw it and disqualified TNT for outside interference.  Drew and Davis chase TNT to the back.  Dash gets on a mic and tells Master Bull he’d better call his match with the Slumberjack Jack Lumber down the middle or there will be hell to pay.  Dash leaves.  Master Bull eventually recovers and leaves under his own power.  (17 ½ min)

Backstage, there is an altercation happening.  The Banker has attacked US Champion ‘the Ragin Cajun’ Rad Gumbo trying to injure him before their PPV match.  The crafty Cajun holds his own despite getting cut open.  Rad, yelling through his crimson mask, tells the Banker he’ll be finished at the PPV.

The rematch for the Anytime/Anywhere title starts backstage.  Davis is attacked by TNT and Scooter J for his interference in TNT’s match earlier.  (Maxine DeVito is seen peeking around the corner watching with an evil smile on her face.)  They drag him down to the ring and powerbomb him through a table before rolling him back in the ring.  Drew show up and chases the two off wildly swinging a steel chair.  Phat Sol comes out and enters the ring.  He asks for the match to begin.  He picks up Davis and we can hear him say “I’m sorry it went down this way” and he hits Davis with the Phat Phat.  He makes the cover and gets the 1-2-3.  Phat Sol has regained the Anytime/Anywhere title.  The good sportsman he is, he helped Davis to his feet and to the back.

Backstage, Drew is still chasing the Tag Team Champs with a chair but they hop into a car and drive off.  Drew hurls the chair down in frustration.  He begins to walk back inside when a car comes peeling around the corner and makes a beeline for Drew.  Drew manages to jump out of the way at the last minute to prevent getting hit.  The car drives off again.

We are ready for some Tag Team action.  First, the Smashers (#1 and 2) come out to massive booing from the fans.  The flex their (unusually enhanced) muscles taunting the fans.  They enter the ring.  Next, the Snake Pit (Tobias, Niven and Leiton) show up on the stage.  They ‘rock/paper/scissors’ to see who will be wrestling in the match tonight.  It looks like it’s going to be Tobias and Leiton.  The trio do a fist bump and then Tobias and Leiton head to the ring while Niven waits on the stage.  This was nothing short of a slobber-knocker.  The two teams beat the holy hell out of each other and 30 minutes later, the bell rang signaling the time limit had expired but both teams still had something in the tank and the kept fighting.  Niven came down and grabbed a steel chair.  The Smashers then left the ring without further altercation.  The Snake Pit do the fist bump again and then leave.  (30 min draw)

Next up is our Fan Favorite Extraordinaire.  First, Drew the Canadian Love Machine comes out to a loud pop from the crowd.  He is sporting some minor cuts from dodging the speeding vehicle earlier.  He high fives the fans and enters the ring.  He climbs the turnbuckle and pumps his fists in the air.  The fans pop.   The pop continues when Starbuck Steel makes his way out.  He also interacts with the fans and enters the ring also climbing one of the corner turnbuckles getting the fans pumped up.  The two meet in the center of the ring, shake hands and the bell rings.  The winner of this match becomes the #1 contender for the TV title.  Drew controlled the pace of the match early on and throughout most of their exhibition.  At the 12 minute mark, Scooter J came in through the crowd.  The ref took an accidental bump and Drew hit Starbuck with the La Casita.  Scooter J jumps Drew and pummels him with the 10 punches.  He then sets Drew up and delivers a DDT from the corner.  Davis Hoffmeister comes running out and chases Scooter J through the crowd.  Starbuck and the ref both recover.  Starbuck bounces Drew’s head against each of the 4 corner turnbuckles.  Drew tries to shake it off and go for the Lover Bomb but Starbuck hits a Shooting Star Buck instead.  He makes the cover and gets the 3 count.  Starbuck Steel is now the #1 contender for Texas Wildfire’s TV title.  He will get his shot at the belt at the PPV in 2 weeks.  Starbuck and Drew shakes hands and leave separately.  (14 min)

Backstage, Ladies Champion Korbi Kong sees Maxine sneaking around.  She confronts and startles Maxine.  “Don’t think about getting involved in my match or you will regret it.”  Maxine tells Korbi “Better get going and smash something.”  Korbi glares at Maxine while the Sassy One smiles.

It’s time for our Main Event with the Ladies Title on the line.  First, the Samoan Sarona Reiher comes out to booing from the crowd.  The crowd changes their tune when the Ladies Champ makes her way out.  They give her the loudest pop of the night.  She appears moved by the tremendous support of the fans.  She shakes hands as she heads to the ring.  Sarona, not one wanting to wait, attacks Korbi to start the match.
